If EA Sports Made A Bowling Game for XBox 360 or PS3....
« on: September 12, 2009, 10:58:48 AM »
Would you play it and how would you want them to make the game?

I've very surprised with the success of Wii bowling there hasn't been a good bowling game out or even attempted. A bowling game by EA would be great.

I heard there was a decent one for either PS2 or the original playstation.  But yes, I'd play a good bowling game by EA Sports.  As long as you can select from professional bowlers I'm not too picky about the gameplay.

The problem with any current bowling games is that there is no depth to them... any other sporting game there are so many tournament options etc, but in bowling games you can play a rubbish leage and maybe some knock out tournaments...

The only decent game ive played recently is high velocity on the PS3, which I enjoy, though the challenges  are a little easy, and a lot of the game is VERY gimmicky...

I'd be willing to bet it costs way too much to make a good game knowing they have such a niche market to appeal to.

for me to play a bowling game it would need realistic ball motion and actually show difference in ball reaction and the ability for the oil to break down so you can make adjustments

Face it, bowling is not that popular among all professional sports. If I ask any kids/teenagers who sean rash, wes mallot etc. They will say huh?  But Kobe Bryant or Brett farve they will know it right a way.

Wii Sports bowling is stupidly popular.  Everybody loves playing it.  There is a market for a good bowling game on the Wii where you actually mimic bowling motion instead of using a controller.  The problem is that nobody has actually made a good bowling game yet.  You have to make the ball motion, pin physics, etc. fairly realistic, but also make it easy enough to halfway repeat shots so that it's at least fun.  And you have to have gameplay elements that are actually fun.  Gameplay needs to be quick and interesting (unlike that annoying Brunswick game on the Wii where you have to wait on every single shot by the AI, career mode is painfully slow and drawn out).  Also, a quality bowling game in my opinion should have a career mode that involves actual PBA bowlers, but also should have lots of other game modes, including mini games, and above all it needs a good multiplayer mode for all of these game modes.  Now, what does all this remind you of?  Yep, the Tiger Woods games.  Those took a difficult sport and made it accessible to everybody, from the casual gamers to the hardcore PGA fans.  And they do sell pretty darn well.

Someone needs to make a bowling game where literally you have to control every step and movement with your arm to the release. Ball reactions have to be realistic and pin carry also has to be realistic. Adjusting and mistakes have to be realistic. If EA could make a good Golf game, then they are someone else can do it. But I want a bowling game where literally makes you feel like your bowling.
No one has ever done that yet.

"Realistic" sports games don't sell.  If you could only shoot a couple under on Tiger, only throw for 300 yards in madden (in a full length game), only shoot 40% in NBA live, most people would eventually stop playing them.

The bowling on Wii Sports Resort has definitely improved. The new motion plus has added a better element to the game. With that though.....most kids don't like it over the original Wii Sports bowling. Why? Because it is tougher. My nephews used to love playing the original bowling game. Well I brought over the new one and they hated it. They kept asking me to put the old one back in.

They tried to play the (anyone proably knows this who have Wii) move target just left of the 4th arrow and let it rip. As long as you brought the ball back and follow through it was pretty much a strike. Well you can't do that on the new game. It is alot more sensitive.

The Wii bowling games are good....but could be better. I think they got the fun part down, but could use a little bit more realistic. The latest Brunswick game was okay and it was without the motion plus sensor.

It would be interesting to see if they could make a game based on the PBA (Similar to what the have with Golf) have all bowling balls in there instead of just a set from one company. Get different oil patterns. The game also needs to have a fun element to it (Sound effects  and crazy animations - finishing moves, taunting, ). Also need something that can level the playing field between kids and adults (Modes of difficulty by player). Try to add achievements to the game for each player.

They'd have to get all the ball companies, the USBC, the PBA, and Kegel on board to do it right.  Actual equipment, actual houses, actual lane patterns, actual pros.  Combine real-life physics, including more accurate carrydown and breakdown, with Wii Sports pick up and play and you could satisfy people just looking for a party game as well as fanatics looking for more of a sim.

I'd be worried about whose face they would put on the front of the game with the EA curse and all...
