Different reactions with long pin blems

Okay, this is the third time this has happened, so I was hoping perhaps someone would be able to explain why this happens?

 

I have a 920A, which was my strongest Pearl by far. The ball is a standard 3 inch pin before drilling, and I have a 4 1/2 inch drilling on the ball with the pin above the middle finger and the MB just to the right of the thumb. I was able to pick up a Darkstar for free, but it was a blem with a 6 inch pin before bowling. I drilled the ball with the same pin distance to my PAP, but I the pin is significantly higher than the 920A and more in the middle of the grip line. I would put it a good 2-3 inches above my bridge, and the MB if it had one would be by the thumb as well. Somehow the Darkstar is as strong and often stronger than my 920A. I have had a similiar experience like this with a long pin blem power groove and a long pin blem 607A.

 

Is there any reason super long pins would hook substantially more for me than a standard 2-4 inch pin ball? I thought it might be a house shot only phenomena, but the balls hook just as much on sport shots.

My only thought here is that if you have a lot of forward roll in your release something like the 920A might be burning up if the drilling is too strong. I used to throw very forward roll and I had to put everything at least an inch over the fingers or it would burn up. Also, I have found extremely high pins will generally rev easier off my hand. If you are having an extreme case of that it might just be that you are putting a significantly larger amount of rpms on the ball.

You probably just have enough dry back end for the Dark Star to hook "more".  For me, most strong balls, like the 920A don't cover a ton of boards, they are just able to handle larger volumes of oil.  Many people like very strong equipment on lanes that don't necessarily call for it to even out over/under, but they don't necessarily hook a ton.  You can throw a strong ball from deeper or a medium oil ball further right on the same lane and the medium oil ball will always appear to hook more.

Did you mean the cg was higher and more in the middle of your grip line?

 

The pin to cg distance doesn't make the ball hook more or less, but can play a role with the location of the cg and then adding a weight hole.

My Darkstar is extremely strong off the dry, way stronger than my Bank Pearl when the back ends are flying, but when theres oil it does slide a bit. But over all the ball is much stronger than advertised

No, I meant the Pin to Pap distance is the same on both ball, but the Pin is significantly higher on the Darkstar compared to the 920A. Other than that difference they are layed out the same.
