First Games W/ Ball
« on: March 10, 2004, 07:31:28 AM »
it seems since i am a fairly new bowler... 15yrs, 180-185 average, been bowling 7 months. when i get a new ball my first 3 games are crap... like my new warp zone... 150-169-157. it seems anybody in this post that bowls thier first 3 games are awsome. ex. 298-225-243 and i was wondering why? im getting my ultimate inferno on friday and how do i bowl a 600 with it my first time... it seems to me like it takes a little to get used to it... why is that?

The truth is, that probably like me, people have had so many different balls that when we get a new one, it is close enough in reaction to something we've thrown before that we can adjust pretty quick to it.

If you get a ball that breaks in the same place as a prior ball, it is only a matter of adjusting your feet, and for a 215-220 average bowler, that SHOULD be a piece of cake.

And1_headach -- I'm with you, I don't score well with a new ball until I've practiced with it several times.  And there have been times I couldn't get the reaction I wanted with a new ball and put it up for as long as two years before going back to it and scoring.  --  JohnP

I have only had a couple of balls drilled out through the years that I scored well with from the start (Blue Hammer, El Nino Wrath and V2 Particle come to mind). Otherwise it becomes a learning experience as you try out how to make the ball fit into your arsenal, sometimes it will be a go to ball on all conditions and other times you may only use it a few times a year.

I usually score very badly with a new ball, for about 5 games.  Takes time to get the release down and get a feel for it.  My newest ball I threw a 242 first game, but was awful for awhile after that.

After I recently gotten back into bowling, I decieded to order my first new ball. A V2 Particle. I was averaging about a 160 with a Norm Duke Hammer that didn't fit.

I went out and rolled like 260, 242, 203, 198, and 235. I was just happy to have a ball that would hook. I thought, after that, bowling would be easy. It wasn't and I have never had a series like that agian.

you think those games are bad for your first game with a new bowling ball check out this.  fortunately this was during practice.  but i had just gotten my Track Mutant and they had thrown down a sport shot where if you got the ball outside is was pretty much in the gutter.  so first shot during practice.  straight in the gutter.  next shot, gutter.  thought maybe i was just doing something wrong with my release so i just kept on rolling it.  next shot gutter, gutter, gutter, gutter, and finally gutter,  then i rolled the ball and pulled it more than i wanted too and the ball took off and picked off the 7.  now im not a bad bowler at all.  averaging 205 right now in a fairly tough house shot.  and averaging 213 in tournaments that travel all around the state of idaho.  So different elevations and definately different shots.  but on this day i just could not do anything on the lanes. plus i think if i would have started off with a different ball it would have gone a little better.

Bought a Wow Pearl earlier this season, threw 6 shots with it before league, 5 strikes one ten pin. Start out the first game 300. Shoot 194 and 237 the last two. Very unusual for me, it takes two to three games for me to get a really good feel for a ball. I do not use the Wow much anymore. Just seems I bowl better with other ones.
