Is this being petty

At a tournament this past weekend a bowler on the opposite team ball was coming in high on the head pin. The bowler took the ball and began to put polish on it in the middle of the second game. I said " Your not allowed to do that during the game." They kinda smiled and kept on doing it. The team that they were on went on to win the tournament. I'm not saying just because they polished their ball that's what made them win. I understand it's because they as a team bowled good enough to win. Would I have been petty by going to the tournament director bring it to their attention ? Are they allowed to polish a ball in the middle of a three game set ? Maybe I don't understand the rules I could be wrong about the whole thing. If any of you were in this situation what would you have done ? Thanks Carlos

If there's no tournament rule against it, then yes, he is allowed to polish a ball after competition starts.  

You are not allowed to sand a ball after competition starts, but cleaners and polishes (as long as they are USBC approved) can be used during play.

Regretfully you are out of gas on this.  As long as he did not use a spinner he is good to polish.

I have to disagree. It doesn't state that it is okay to polish a ball manually during competition. I think there is a valid argument here.

I read the rule like this:

The only thing permitted to do during competition is to:

1. Clean a Ball with a Ball Cleaner that is certified as anytime use
2. Polish a ball in an automated, self-contained polishing machine.

You do anything else, you are breaking the rules.

Lots of the polishes mentioned in their list of approved polishes mention that they can be used during competetion.They need to quit changing things every yr especially since they no longer send out rule books.
