alcohol and bowling: how does it affect YOUR game?
« on: March 20, 2005, 03:56:47 AM »
i mentioned something in one of Mumzie's posts about my bowling while drinking.

basically, i have found i REALLY DO bowl better after a couple beers. as a matter of fact, i bowled my highest game/series (by 40ish pins, no less) while coming down from a good, solid drunk. everything i threw was money, my spares almost all coming from slightly heavy hits letting me picking up 6 four-seven leaves alone. that to me, upon review, was some damn good bowling. in 3 games i recall missing my intended 2-board target perhaps 2/3 times. why?

my best league scores were also achieved while on about 3-4 beers. for some reason, i can really focus and block out alot of 'white noise' in the alley, and i am MUCH more consistent in my release and targeting.

now, being sloppy drunk is a waste of time. but getting a nice little buzz seems to be beneficial to my game. NO, i am not advocating swilling down some beer on the way to the alley so i can show up "prepared", LOL. but does anyone else seem to have this issue?

Not me...causes my thumb to swell up terrible and makes for an expensive investment in tape :-)

I always bowl better with a few beverages in me!!!

My teammate likes the BR wristbands we got, but he thinks he can take it a bit further.....

My timing and accuracy suffer pretty fast.  If I'm just out to have fun, that's OK.  If I'm practicing or trying to score, forget about it.  Unlike Doug, my fingers are the problem.  I use Magic Carpet, so slight thumb swelling isn't a problem.  However, since I don't use inserts and like my fingers snug, any swelling keeps me from inserting my fingers more than half way.

I bowl in two leagues, one I bowl with a team that does beer frame and drinks a bit, the other doesn't.  So I go about my night the way the team does.  I average about 5 pins higher on the night I drink.  A couple beers in me seem to relax me and I seem to be able to let go of a bad shot much easier then when I don't.

Alcohol affects my bowling a lot - when my opponent is drinking

I don't drink - and although I used to drink plenty, on the lanes I have only consumed ONE beer in my lifetime. Just never have put the two together.

Now if the question was how do I bowl hungover??? I could answer that from what I remember while in college.

Bowling does not affect my drinking at all.. I don't mind pausing to throw a ball or having to walk to the bar..

I have had some really good series with a couple of beers in me. (I must stress a couple) But I have probably had as many good ones clean sober. I will say this, when I do have a couple of beers I do shake off an open or a bad shot easier.
