How would you play it?
« on: February 28, 2004, 08:12:54 PM »
On this website we have some very talented bowlers.  I was thinking about how could we pick their brains to help others.  So I formed this post.  My goal is to give other bowlers different methods of playing the lanes. I will post a condition and try to have all the stats and let you decide how to play it.  My goal is that the suggestions made would include:

1) Ball type, drill pattern, surface prep.
2) Bowlers statt i.e. speed, rev rate, axis rotation and axis tilt.
3) Loft or set down.

So how would you play this condition?

Synthetic lanes and fair amount of medium oil 40 units inside 10-10, 10 units 10-5 and 5 units 5 to gutter to 42 feet with some carry down.  Out of bounds outside 12 board. Ball won't come back from outside of 12.

***UPDATE***

This is what I played.

I used a colossus drilled pin over ring and mb near track, polished.  About 16 mph 318 revs and 45 degrees axis rotation and about 15 degrees of tilt. Loft a few feet.  20-22 at the arrows out to 15 at breakpoint.  fairly tight line and speed most important.

I can't wait to here this!

I just had my AZZ kicked on this type of shot in a 8 gamer. the oil may have been between 42 and 38.

long, wet and OB = -350

I have an Idea and when I go back on the 21st I will see first hand what works.

Quick question...are you on the same pair for the event or moving after every game?  If it is a rotation, some of my thoughts would have to take into account who I was following in the roation pattern.

I would be inclined to throw the first few practice shots with a Major Assault basically playing down and in from 8.  The high load in that ball tends to help create some area to work with even where others are finding OB.  The other option would be to take a Silver Streak and play a fallback from deep inside.

It has actually been long enough since the MA saw daylight that all I could tell you at the moment is it was a short pin and left in box finish.  The SS is also box finish, pin under ring, cg kicked out with an x hole just below the PAP.

My stats...medium speed (Qubica puts it around 15-15.5 at the deck), rev rate has never been checked by CATS or slow-mo video, so I can best describe it as average.  On a condition like described, I would be throwing with minimal tilt and rotation, just shy of an end over end...

Thoughts are that with the OB, there won't be as much carrydown outside of 10  once you get past the buff, and so there should be some room to generate a reaction.  Also, on a condition like that, it could turn into a low plus number for the cut, which means you don't need to find the line to string strikes but rather keep the ball in play with makable spares.

A lot would probably depend on how the heads hold up.  Also everyone's definitions of medium oil are different...

My specs and equipment are in my profile.

I'd try my Silver Streal Pearl first.  Similar line as what you mentioned.  If the oil volume was too great, I'd move in just a bit and throw my Thing a little slower.
