Spare Ball
« on: December 15, 2008, 03:52:57 PM »
Hi gang, I don't own one, but looking to get one.  Missing waaaaayyyy to many 10 pins.  I want to know what kind of spare ball all of you use.  I was looking at getting the "eye ball" from bowlingball.com, but not sure yet. So, what ya got?

I bought one of these off eBay NIB for $15.00 + Shipping, I keep it in my tourney arsenal, but use a Legends Arrow for league arsenal.

Seller currently has 7 for sale, they look sharp too!

Most polyester balls on the market are pretty much the same, hardness of 78-80. Only a few stand out a bit, because they have harder shell, like Lanemaster's Arrow, the Ice Storm (got one and it actually less hooky than a softer polyester) and the Aqua Spare from Storm or Circle's Rio balls. Lane #1's XXXL has a core, so it can function as a dry lane ball with an end roll, and for some player styles this can be helpful.

Despite rumors, AFAIK the current production Blue Dots are not harder than the White Dots, and I am not sure if the original hard balls are still available as remakes - I think ABS in Japan has some in store?

Well I recently switched out of my xxxl for spares(hasnt seen much use lately) since I tried my dull faball nail. This ball for me skids better than my xxxl(itwould occasionally turn over on me) and this ball seems to be more consistant down the lane for spotty conditions which makes it a valuable asset to my arsenal. If you can find one on ebay and stay even slightly behind it without a lot of rotation it will hold its line very well I would suggest everyone try this hidden gem at some point.

Like everyone else has said plastic is plastic but if you are looking for a real head-turner in a spare ball the "Golden Globe" by Roto-Grip is a awesome looking ball.

I had the hammer tuff and it worked well but then I bought an AMF Angle and it works even better.

I think majority of bowlers want to have the different look with a spare ball. We have just about seen it all by now, boxing gloves, basketballs, soccer balls, skulls, footballs, swirls, looney tunes and others. I used a older black spare storm ball for years and just became tired of looking at it. I bought a orange/black Columbia white dot on close out and love it. Cheap and does the job on ten pins and other spares. That is what I want a ball that goes straight on conditions we face. I bowled my city tournament this weekend and only had to make a two board adjustment before the sixth game without a miss. That eye ball might blink at you if it goes in the channel. (LOL)
