Factory finish??????????
« on: March 14, 2006, 02:37:21 PM »
Tonight i noticed something after taking a piece of advice.  I had some work done on some recent purchases, and quite frankly they were too shiny.  I was told but a number of people, scotch brite by hand it will smooth dull it out a little.  Well it ended up being the difference between 610 to 720.  Was it in my head?  No everything seemed to roll consitantly.  Now what makes me think even more is that i only had one piece of equipment recently that i bought new and rolled it true to the way it came.  Now that i think about it more than before!!!!, i didnt really start to score good untill i had a decent amout of games on it (20-30.  So i looked at the track, sure enough duller than the rest of the surface.

Brodie,

I sometimes hate factory finish simply because some ball companies make it hard to duplicate the out of box finish straight from the factory.  Ebonite did a wonderful thing by coming out with their abralon pads.  Those would be grits 180, 360, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000.  Sandpaper comes in 180, 220, 320, 400, 600, 1000.  NOW.....there are companies out there that have their finishes at 1200 or 1500 and my favorite....when they advertise factory finish as being "compound polish" or "high gloss".  As a pro shop person, it is frustrating at times when ball companies do this.  I love Ebonite right now simply because they keep it simple.  Their newer stuff comes from the factory at 1000 or 4000 abralon advertised, so it is easier to duplicate the out of box finishes.  Just wish other companies would follow suit.

As far as the 1200 and 1500 grit finishes the best place to buy the sand paper for that is @ a automotive paint store.
But I do agree with the simplicity of Ebonites finishes

I've noticed that quite often myself.  That's why a spinner is a wise investment.

Which makes me wonder if all those people who got rid of a ball after 10 games really knew what the ball could do?
