As a pro shop operator, this is the question that kills me. I make sure to watch the bowler's style, measure pap, tilt, rotation and rev rate. I talk to them about balls that would compliment what they have and their style. It's a passion for me, not a $$ maker. Buddies is great, no doubt. I work hard to stay competitive with their prices. It's hard because they aren't selling the balls for much more than Shops can get them from distributors. Even the most detailed shop can't make $$ selling this way. Buddies has volume and has cornered the internet market. So it's tough. I am always grateful to my loyal customers and always try to give a fair price to everyone. I toss in a free oil extraction and resurface to all of my customers that buy a new ball, not just regulars. All of my customers work hard for their money and deserve 100% of my time and efforts. But, isn't the time and knowledge spent with a customer worth something? It's hard to put a number amount on it. It's a tough question for a bowler looking for a high quality pro shop. How much is too much?
