My Rant of the weekend: Bowler who don't do the right thing
« on: April 18, 2004, 03:24:20 AM »
Here is one for you and I'd like to hear your response on how you would have handled this.
I was asked to bowl a tournament with a group of bowlers about 6 months ago.  I was told who was bowling and I thought that the team was made up of some pretty good bowlers so I agreed and paid my money.

When I showed up to bowl, my name had been crossed out and replaced with another bowler while my name appeared with some guys who I really didn't know, nor are they as good as the team I agreed to bowl on.

I though aobut raising hell about it but thought that if I did and the guy who took my place was moved back and he bowled better then I did, then I would have looked like the "bad" guy.

After we were finished, I asked the person who had asked me to bowl what happened and who made the dission to move me to another team without asking.  He said that he didn't know it until he arrived.

There was a group of people who made up 3 teams.  I asked the person who made the change why he did that without asking and he got defensive and said that "they" decided that they wanted 5 righties.  What?  I was a lefty 6 months ago when they asked me, so that wasn't a good excuse.  Then he said that is was a concensis that decided to remove me and put me on another team.

The team I bowled on didn't cash, whereas the team that I "thought" I was bowling with shot good and is 4th.  The bowler who replaced me as low on the team with a 601.  I didn't bowl very good but shot 627.

We had to bowl D/S this morning and I was once again switched and bowled D/S with someone I had only been around a time or two.  I din't bowl good in Singles but shot 754 in doubles with my partner shooting 530.

If I would have been on the team that I was scheduled to, and agreed to, the team would have had a higher score and I would have made some good money.

The botom line is, it really doesn't make a difference what the score outcome is or was, it's the way you treat people and I feel like I was shafted.

Lets say that you were asked to bowl a tournament and you're team was you, Chris Barnes, Walter Ray, Pete Weber, and Norm Duke.  You had been asked to bowl on other team but you wanted to bowl with those guys so you agreed to it.  When you showed up, you were bowling with other bowlers.  Reguardless of the outcome, would you have felt shafted?

Right is right and wrong is wrong.  If they would have asked me before showing up, I may have agreed to the switch but without asking, I felt like I was taken advantage of.

  Your thought please.

Hey Hose,

That's why for any important tourney, I organize it and make sure things go correctly.  For any other hdcp tourneys that aren't as important or worth a lot of money, I'm more then happy to bowl with anyone in the group.  I personally do not feel what was done to you was fair but that's what can happen (as you just saw) with people you don't really know.  Simple rule, if you want something done right, do it yourself...

I got shafted like this for a few years when going
to states. No more. I organized my own team. Still not
everyone I want on it but at least I know where I am
bowling in the lineup, and with who.

Hose, you definately got the shaft on this deal.  You got put on a team that you did not agree to bowl with, and did not expect to bowl with.  You are a better man than I because I would have said something right away.  I'm a pretty competitive person by nature and wouldn't go out of my way to bowl a tournament with people that I did not think would bowl well, especially if I didn't know the people much either.  The Hose got hosed on this deal.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but you did get the shaft on that one.  Not only that, but the four guys  who DIDN"T bowl with you either shafted  themselves (by switching you), or they also got shafted when the switch was made --- who's to say  your 627 doesn't turn into  a 657 or 687 because you're in with 4 guys who are bowling good???  How much higher could they have finished??  Anyway, no matter how you slice it, you should have been ASKED first-- that was YOUR spot.

I would have just been gone, right on the spot, period!!!!!!!!!!!! No one is going to walk on or control me like that. In fact I would never associate with people like that again regardless of whether they are friends or not friends.
I simply don't understand anyone getting "crapped on" like this and then stay and bowl with these people. Hose, you have to be a way-way better person than I am (and I am a nice patient person) to have taken this type thing off these people.....Simply put, not many people would have stayed and bowled.

Assuming that everything is as you understood it, yes you got a bad deal.

I would have handled it the same as you, I’m pretty non-confrontational so I would have gone with the flow.

But I would now have mental note not to go with this same bunch again. And if they asked me why I would have no problem telling them that I got shafted the last time.

Fool me once shame on you,

Fool me twice shame on me.
