i bowled an 84
« on: June 28, 2006, 03:01:42 AM »
So my average has now dropped 60 pinsin the past two months.  I bowled a 171, 84, and a 189 ( with my plastic spare )   Ever since i took a lesson my game has gone downhill.  I have recently also started throwing gutterballs.  I have no idea what to do.  Should I go back for more lessons?  They are what screwed my game up in the first place.  I tried going back to my old game, but it just feels way to akward now.

Just from some one who has gone through what you are right now...if you trust what the coach is telling you...keep going. If not, get a new coach who you feel confident is giving you good advice.

I started with my current coach Feb 2005 and my average took a major hit.  While I still have work to do, I am seeing glimpses of what is to come.  My average has finally stabilized and is slowly improving.  My low games are getting higher and my high games are also getting higher.  Patience, practice, and time.

I was so disgusted I was ready to hang it up.  I'm glad I didn't.  A great book to read to help you through this phase is Focused for Bowling by Dean Hinitz.  It was recommended by my coach and has really helped.

In regards to the straight arm and cupped wrist, those are essential to becoming a better bowler.  I used to have a bent arm and straight wrist (u can see in my video from sig), and while I was scoring in the 170-180s in it, it wasnt going to get me any higher.  So I worked on straight arm and cupped wrist, and after a couple of weeks it becomes natural.  You'll find it all comes together in the long run.

U can never expect to have great results right away when learning something new, especially in a sport that requires soo much precision, accuracy, and consistency.
