bowling gurus (sp?), can you tell me what are the pros and cons of each
of the three basic drillings and which type of lane conditions and lines
that they are best for?
i have a basic understanding of how a 10:30, 12:00 and 1:30 drilling
are supposed to react but have a harder time understanding how they
factor into lane play. balls with a 10:30 drilling read the breakpoint
the best for me but 1:30 drillings are more forgiving of my
inconsistent release.
i bowled in the nationals recently after two shifts had already bowled
and needless to say the lanes were bone dry unless you played left of
thirty for your laydown point. my high diff (0.053) ball with a 10:30
checked up too early while my high diff ball (0.055) with a 1:30 drilling
was still too strong because of the amount of flare that it has. i eventually
used a weaker ball (0.037 diff) with a 1:30 drilling with some success but
it didn't have enough angle to take out the ten pin consistently. all three
balls had the pin approximately 4 1/2 to 5 inches away from my pap.
question: what kind of ball as far as rg, differential and drilling do
you think would have worked when playing an extreme inside angle? does your
arsenal consist of high, medium and low flare balls with the same drilling
so that you have the same type of look on the lanes or do you stick with
higher flaring equipment that you have some drilled strong and some weak?
if it helps my specs are
ball speed 18 mph
rev rate 350 rpm
30* rotation
pap 5 3/4 over, 1/2 up
the number one mistake that i tend to make is to get too slow with my
speed which makes the ball overreact on the backend.
