I Could Not Fathom This

Walked into a Pro Shop in my area today and almost had a stroke. This place was charging 115.00 to drill up a ball List of charges:
Fitting-20.00
Drill-50.00
Dynamic set-up-20.00
Slug-15.00
Grips-10.00
TOTAL-115.00
At these prices he won't be around long,even if he fills all the holes with strikes. WHAT'S UP !!!

Wow, that's a lot.  Less than what I'd pay for grips and slug here, though.  It's why I don't go to the shop here, too.  I don't mind paying good money for drilling, but pushing $30 for grips and a thumb sleeve is a ripoff.

Heh, I used to go there for balls when I was a kid.  The owner Bob Gudinas is a nice enough guy, he'll talk your head off though.  Nothing I got from him ever fit right though, and screwed up my thumb because of it, so I stopped going to him.

My brother just got his PBA Inferno from a Pro Am he bowled in and took it to Bob to get drilled up.  Cost him around $80 for a basic Pin next to ring cg in palm layout.  He just took the specs off another ball, I almost crapped a brick when he told me what he spent.  I told him he got taken, and that I usually spend $45-$50 with slug/grips at another shop, Strike Time in Lisle, IL.

Charging for fitting, and whatever the hell "dynamic set-up" is, is rediculous (sp?).  Take those two out, lower the drilling price by 15, and you've got what we would charge.  That price is a joke.

I would say that $150 for a PG is kinda pricey.  A lot of shops would have that, plus maybe a bag and shoes for the $150 as a package for new bowlers.

It'd be about that much at the shop here, unfortunately.  $230 for a high-end ball, about $200 for a mid-line ball (Vendettas, BVPs), and about $140 or so for entry-level.  It's why I drive two hours to a different driller.  Even with gas, it's worth it.

They will all be "drilling shops" only soon if the price gouging doesn't cease.

Fit and drill together shouldn't be over $50 or $60, I don't care who's doing it. I can understand charging extra for grips and slugs, especially if you're going to switch-grip it.

Charging $20 extra to lay the ball out somewhere other than label is a bad joke.

I have never had a ball drilled by this robber and never will just noticed the sign while at lunch and being the bowling junkie that I am had to check it out.
Everyone has a right to make money but this is just sick. Thought that I would post it here and hopefully save someone from being screwed over. Most shops here charge in the range of 45.00-60.00 for the whole magilla.

Generally I would say anywhere between $35-$50 is the going rate to get a ball drilled.. I know a few drillers who will charge you more for brining in your own ball because they feel you bought it off the internet.

NO reason for a blank drill to be anymore than $40 bucks or $50 with grips and slug. The actual cost of the grips and slug is less than $5..

If the person coming in with the blank ball needs to be measured, then I can see charging a few bucks more as that takes a few extra minutes.. But to copy a ball, $40 bucks is more than enough to charge someone..

If that guy thats charging $115 to drill a blank ball stays in business very long, I will be surprised.. Thats absolute price gauging at its very best..
