Last night in league (my experiment, fun league) i take a Rhino Pro Purple (circa 1992) and a 2 piece Urethane Pearl ball that I was thinking of using to try to find a better dry lane option. I toss the Urethane Pearl and Rhino in practice. The Rhino is just a tad stronger and I choose to throw it. I go 180-214-199. Nothing major but i was in / near pocket all night. I have been keeping stats like WRW to track spare leaves and what to practice on the most. I leave 12 one pin spares, 2 two pin spares, 14 strikes and two washouts. The shot was not hard, i just did not get / have the area the other guys had and my carry percentage was for sure less than normal. I had to be VERY accurate on what shot i was playing, if i tugged it in the oil it just slid (thus the two washouts) and I had to be sure to stay on line and not get to wide as well. Another guy I bowl with used his Zone Classic and had 5-6 boards at target area(3 left,3 right)and he still got the ball in the hole. Maybe he did not carry but if he tugged it in oil the ball had enough recovery / flare to get back and at least leave a more reasonable spare to make. He out struck me by 10 and shot a baby 700.
So all in all i learned that if i want to stay sharp for tournaments and such, pull out that old stuff with out the mega flare / hook and go Retro and I /we will see for sure where I am / we are with our game.
P.S. I pulled out my regular ball I had been using in this house and was at least 15 left of where I played with the Rhino. Also for info purposes i have put my CATS stats on this post to show I am actually pretty accurate and still had to be extra sharp last night to be in the hole.
Velocity: 18.6, 220+ level
Velocity range: .6, 220+ level
Target range: 2.0 boards, 220+ level
Launch Angle: .24, 220+ level
Entry Angle: 4.25. 200-210 level
Initial Rotation: 285, 210-219 level ( not sure but everyone says CATS in Reno measures low in this area )
So as u can see I am not a scatter the shot player
