The Professional...I'm confused
« on: May 15, 2005, 01:38:38 AM »
I heard that this ball was in limited supply and only available through pro shops. Yet I log onto buddies earlier and see it will be available on there soon. What's the deal?

Soon? no. Now? yes. (sorry; too hard to resist the opening.)

See
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/1845/Columbia+Professional+Bowling+Ball+%2D+FREE+SHIRT.htm

Buddies is a pro shop with apparently huge resources. They seem to have about thirteen 15 lb balls and three 16 lb balls, as of the time I'm typing this.

Sorry charlest...when i checked it last night...it said coming soon..they must have changed it between then and now. (Or maybe I'm just an idiot) However, how is this acceptable for buddies to do this, when Columbia has required they be sold in pro shops only. Granted they are a proshop, but isn't this exploiting things a bit far?

In this bowling world of ours, what difference does it really make?
I know you're not trying to enforce what you think has been implied. I recall when Brunswick originally marketed the Quantums for $300, they tried to force and enforce such "restraint of trade". I suppose the lawyers could word contracts in such a way as to make it seem legal.

In any case, all balls are supposed to be available to the bowling ball buying public at large. I think that's both an ABC/USBC and a PBA rule. SO I don;t see how Columbia could legally enforce their "suggestion" that only a pro shop can sell this ball to a walk-in bowler (which is my interpretation of what someone has said about this ball)?
