7-9?
« on: October 07, 2008, 12:40:09 PM »
What does a 7-9 slit mean for a right hander? I was told that it was my ball rolling out, however every ball that I had thrown on that lane finished high flush and driving.

a 7-9 split for a righthander is a slightly high hit------uncommon before reactive balls.

a 7-9 split is definitely not more common for a righty... Ive left a 7-9 once, that was when the backends were flying and my ball drove right through the rack.

5th... Lol, the last 7-9 I left was the first ball after a 300 game in league. Best shot I threw the whole night, and I just blitzed the rack... trust me, though, it loosened me up a bit, hahaha.

My teammate left one this week.  He is a low rev righthander, but it was a high flush hit.  I didn't think he could leave one of those given his rev rate.

I almost left one as well.  The 7 & 9 were standing, but a messenger came across and took out the 9.

If you're leaving a lot of 7 - 9's, consider dropping a pound of weight from your ball to get more deflection.  --  JohnP

Possibly a high hit, but more likely the result of light-flush.  Being right handed, the ball will come in light flush and the following chain of events occurs:
  • the headpin goes to the sidewall and flies back across the deck without touching anything in the back row except maybe the 10.

  • the ball pushes the 3-pin into the 5 pin and those two pins blow into the 8-pin with the ball following.

  • the 2-pin falls straight back, barely clipped by the sailing headpin.  It rubs the four, which falls into the channel without touching the 7

There could be variations on this theme, of course, but seeing such a shot in my mind, I think this is how it would play out.

The fix is simple.  Move 1/2 - 1 board right.  Throw an arc-prone ball rather than a stronger angular ball.

I crushed the pocket and left one yesterday. I though I was just gonna leave a solid 9 but low and behold the 2 and 4 both go flying around and over the 7 pin..
