PAIN!!! in my index finger at the base...?
« on: March 18, 2004, 05:59:53 PM »
I just wondered if this happens to anyone else?

I have a relaxed span, I put my pinky and index fingers as far away from my middle and ring fingers, and I don't come over the ball....

my thought were that the ball was resting my my index more than any other finger since I turn the ball out from me to get more revs.....

I would feel better if I had a second opinion or some way of fixing this problem....

Thanks.

looks like a job for the reset button....

*presses reset button*
*random ball flies down the lane*
*ball hits 10 pin*
*ball explodes*

I knew it was too good to be true....

I had this probelm last year as well.  I had to tape the base of my finger, and knuckle up to bowl.  I ended up taking time off from bowling, and it ened up going away.  I also cut down how much I get under the ball.  I also turn the ball a lot, so I hope it helps you out a little.

did the tape actually help? or was it more of a placebo effect?

The tape seemed to work, I wrapped the base of the finger, then wrapped it around the palm of my hand.  Just have to leave the tape a little slack, so it does not crunch your hand up.  I still have some stiffness in the joint.  But that I can live with, the pain sucked.

I got the similar problem as well.

It first started 6 months ago when I tucked my pinkie, got the pain at the bottom of my ring finger. stopped doing what I was doing, pain went away.

However, 2 months ago, without tucking my ring finger in, trying to 'turn' the ball like Tommy Jones and PDW, the pain came back.  My finger goes sore after a few games, even now......,  not good at all.

Still, 2 weeks ago, with the pain I shot 278 for a 671 set, my highest ever!! (I'm not a good bowler, just 170avg)  No pain no gain eh???

I find that by not moving my index finger out as much, I can deminsih the pain... at least for a few frames but I am looking for a solution not a patch...

I used to be able to rol 20 games in one day... no problem, not tired at all....but now I am noticing that I can barely get through 8.

I never tucked my pinky under.... but I just recently started stretching it way out.... perhaps that is forcing the ball onto my index more than befor causeing my pressure...

hmmmm.... my mind just cleared up and I think this should solev my problem...

Thanks!

I might try adding 1/16" length to the ring finger or taking 1/16" from the middle finger to move the ball away from that spot in your grip. Additionally, more under the plam un the thumb might change the way the ball lays in your hand enough.

Hi ND,

This also happened to me for a few years when I was staying behind the ball quite a bit at the point of release.  The weight of the ball physically leaned on my index more.  It provided for a very good roll and reaction but was too painful in the long run, I also used to tape the base to subdue the muscle and that did seem to help for a bit.  I ended up going around the ball more to compensate for the pain but it will change your rotation.  When you opened your pinky, you were most likely more behind the ball thus causing more strain to the index.

Tenpin(cool name), the callus at the base of the index is considered to be the true crankers callus.  I'm assuming you hit the ball fairly well, if you do, then this is what it is bud. Your hand is snapping around the ball while your physically behind it and would cause for a very high track as well.  Hope some of this info helps guys...

I had this problem with 2 fingers, and fixed it with one of the those elbow wraps.  A doctor friend told me it was likely tendinities, and one of the wraps would slightly alter their use, eliminating the problem.  It has been a problem since, I just wear the wrap every time I bowl.

I have never tried one but it looks like it may help.  It is called the AcuPro, made by Master.  It is this thing that goes on your finger.  It is not on Master's site, but some people still seel them or atleast give you some info to see if it may help you.
