Reminder: Tape in thumb replacement.
« on: January 03, 2004, 08:12:41 PM »
Just a reminder to change that white tape in your thumb hole about once a month. It catches all the oil and grease from your thumb and turns a nasty yellow color. That yellow is the indicator that it's absorbing oil. You may think your thumb is dry, bit it ain't. Tape is cheap; a washout left because the ball slipped may be expensive.

Same here. I tried it, liked it, set up 3 or 4 balls for them because I had to enlarge the thumb hole a lot. For 4 or 6 game blocks they were fine. One time I had a 8 or 10 game block and my thumb got all red and swollen. I had to remove them. They seem to be softer than regular velcro, hook&loop tapes, but not soft enough. Maybe I need more calluses.

Strange you should say that, charlest.  I find the Velcro "Sticky Back" tape sets to be much softer than the Magic Carpet.

As for tape that you put on your fingers or thumb, I've been applying a half-piece of Ebonite Perfect Patch to the inside of my thumb, to prevent getting a callous on the inside joint.  It works great.  Very sticky; once you put it on, you have to peel it off your thumb.  It leaves a gummy residue on your skin, but I think it's a small price to pay for not having to worry about it falling off.
