I have a track of a spinner...
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:36:16 AM »
I have been having this problem lately where I have this oil track http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/kennmelvin/BallSpin.jpg which is a spinner, but I want an oil track like this http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/kennmelvin/BallSemi.jpg which is a semi roller, this is the oil track I used to have. How can I achieve this oil track again?

It should be a hand position thing, like Inverted 1 mentioned. I had a similar problem some time ago, and I found that I would tilt my palm to the inside, with the index finger pointing forward. This lifted the PAP and amde the ball rather spin than actually roll.

I corrected it through a firm hand position, which was more straight: the pinky and lower arm would be in line, and the index finger by tendency point "outwards". This kept the hand easier behind the ball and brought the track higher. Focus on the hand position at the release to avoid a broken-back wrist which would ruin the effort was also essential.

I actually had this issue about 2 weeks ago.  I found myself having too loose of a wrist/forearm and turning them waaaay too early with nothing left come release.  I have since then kept much more firm and exaggerated my follow through a bit to help keep firm.  My track is now back to the semi-roller that I was/am.  I can carry light hits again!

What did you do that changed your track?  If the answer is "nothing" or "I don't know", I'll bet you're looking at later flare rings instead of the initial track.  I find that with many of today's strong coverstocks the oil from the initial track has absorbed into the coverstock before the ball gets back for you to look at.  The only track rings left are from mid lane or even further, and they look like a low track.  If you have a plastic ball, throw it with your strike shot release and check the track position.  Secondly, the track position doesn't determine whether the ball is a spinner, the tilt does.  Tilt is dependent only on the diameter of the track, not location.  For more information go to the buddiesproshop.com web site.  In their Technical Information you'll find instructions on how to meassure track diameter.  Then go to the asymmetrical layout guide for a chart to relate the diameter to the tilt and let us know what you come up with.  --  JohnP

I track like that fairly often, it is my normal release at the moment due to my lack of correction from rotating to early.

I have found when I am loose and just bowling it occurs as well as when I just try and loosen up. But when I focus and stay behind the ball through the shot I end up with a much higher track, it is something I try to utilize as I can vary my reaction shape by doing so.
