I recently took a bowling lesson. After two weeks of bowling poorly with my new and correct bowling techniques, I bowled a 691, 713, 784, & 760 all within two weeks. My series around those four were very good also, I just don't exactly remember what they were. After four great weeks of bowling, all of a sudden I am back to rolling 620, 615, etc., etc.. Does anyone have any idea of why the dip has taken place or was my good bowling just a fluke? I do not seem to think so, but I do not know what I am doing differently now! Has this ever happened to anyone else???

And1 Headach,
Thank you for the post, but I think the shot has been even drier, which I should eat for lunch, but all of a sudden I can not get out of the low six's. Maybe my new bowling style has me hitting the ball better and the drier they become, the more difficult they become for me now??? I hate making excuses. A year ago I would have given my right arm to continually throw 600's. Now I think my "Mendoza" line is about 640. I have made great progress, but I want to continue progressing. Back to the drawing board Thursday night. I will just try and really focus and see if that helps!

I experienced the same thing. I'm just 16 now, but when I was 15 I had like a 121 average, hardly hit a 400 series letalone 600. I decided on long lessons every week (and still do), and recently my average is up to 170+ and hitting over 600 series (usually) but what I noticed is that when there were weeks when I didn't have a lesson the week before my bowling was poorer, because I would lapse.
Your technique may have been altered to quite some extent, and its hard to keep it consistent because your mind is partly set in what you did before. You need lessons consitently and close to keep what you learnt before and advance ,its easy to lapse/forget what you had been taufgt, no matter how hard you try. Have some more lessons.

Hope I helped.

It happens to all. Let down, second guessing, over confidence. Take your pick. It all about attitude. How the pros maintain there ability to perform at that high level the vast majority of time is beyond me.

Tenpinrufer -- I usually blame my biorhythms.  Now, seriously - after you completed your lessons and changed your style it took a while to get the changes to feel comfortable.  During that period, you had to really concentrate on making the proper shots.  Then you got comfortable and for a while continued concentrating - that's when you were shooting the big scores.  Now you are totally comfortable, but are not concentrating as hard and some of your old habits have probably crept back into your game.  Just a guess.  --  JohnP

All good answers. Thank you to all. I will re-focus and concentrate on Thursday. Hopefully that is the problem. Sometimes you need ten people to tell you the obvious before it sinks in!
