So who doesn't use a spare ball?
« on: February 05, 2009, 05:10:14 AM »
I've found for the most part I don't need to use a spare ball anymore.what ever ball I'm using for the shot I can make my spares with the same ball.all I do for the right side spares is start off with my hand position on top off the ball and it will skid most of the way and then pick up into a forward roll.
I've found this release works well for dry lanes as well.

There are more advantages to throwing plastic at your spares.  Why subject your $200 + reactive strike ball to the additional damage caused by shooting at corner pins?

Good Point.

There's nothing funnier than seeing a person pick up their "strike" ball to shoot at a spare and realize that they grabbed the wrong ball, which they then pick up there "Spare" ball, shoot their spare and miss it! :0)

If there is oil, i can use whatever ball i have and shoot my spares. I've been really good with my 10 pins in the last 6 months, i've seen my avergae improve by 10-15 pins, when i start missing them i know it is just where im releasing the ball or bad placement

I used to throw a plastic ball at everything, but then went out and got a Tornado and have it drilled negative. It only hooks an extra board or two when I try to hook it compared to my plastic and the ball actually carries pretty good. Can even use this ball on short patterns for 10 pins.

I use to be able to use my strike ball as my spare but I've been having problems with picking up the 10 pin and the 6,10 spare the past year or so. Now I'm using my Scout to pick up just those spares when necessary. I do better with that than a spare, so one less ball for me to carry around.

I don't use a spare ball anymore, it's been probably 5 years since I made the switch.  Best thing I ever did, my average went up 10 pins the next season, and I am more accurate staying with the same ball I use for strikes.

Dont use a spare ball either. I have a guy in my league who "thinks" that he is pretty good, decided to buy a spare ball,  missed more spares with it then before when he had no spare ball.   Come down to your own preferance tho.

depends on the spare, plastic for 10 pins, strike ball for all others.

No spare ball.  I can adjust my hand position to straighten out the shot.

I have always thrown Urethane at spares.  It started back when I first started bowling because all I had was my Blue Hammer, so I learned how to throw it at everything.

I still do it today because it allows me to have a dual purpose ball for when the lanes burn up.

I don't carry a spare ball per se.  I throw my Neptune at most of my spares on both sides of the lane.  I don't have to throw it harder, just flatten the shot out a little bit.  If I don't want that ball to hook, it doesn't hook....lol.

Its easier for me to do this than to take up space in my bag with a plastic ball that is good for only one thing.  With the Neptune I throw it straight at my spares and use it very effectively when the lanes dry out.  Win win situation as far as I can tell.
