Thoughts and feelings about 9-pin no tap leagues.
« on: January 27, 2005, 01:39:33 AM »
A friend of mine convinced me to join one spur of the moment.  I did one over the summer. It was fun to a point. I guess these leagues are more for beginners.

The last league I was in I saw a lot of people make horrible shots, get really good carry, and get nine down.

Does anyone here think that 9-pin no tap rewards you for making bad shots?

I have come to dislike them.  One of the best ways to score high is to use a low hooking ball so you can be in the pocket all night, good carry isnt a factor really, just decent revolutions on most balls, sometimes even plastic.

agreed, also you never get to practice your single pin spares

I think they are tons of fun. Thats all they are meant to be, take it for what its worth, ya know? I wish they had a no-tap youth league.

An ex girlfriend talked me into bowling in a summer no tap league a few years back.  I had a lot of fun, and it was fun to average 254 for a season.  In 14 weeks I had 19 300's and 3 900's(not only was it no-tap, but THS gave me about 10-14 boards to work with) .  Now, if I could only do that for a real league.  It really didn't help my game any because I never had to attempt to pick up a single pin spare or hit a mark.

I bowled in a strike 9 summer league a few years back with my wife.  It was a good way to keep the swing in check since the bowling alley never seemed to be open for practice!  And it was a really cheap league!

I still bowl in a strike 9 tourney once a month, just for a change of pace.  The no pressure situation is nice once in awhile.

Don't think I'd ever do a full league again though!  Like Bowl a Lot said, you don't get the single pin practice & I'd be afraid of forgetting how!!
