Hello bowling family,
I am a new bowler and I have learned that if you fight the lanes, you will get your @$$ whip how your mother use to beat you.
I was bowling in my summer tournament and I would not move from the 20 throwing to the 10. I was throwing good balls but the pins was saying something else. so the first game was a whopping 117(yes I was getting frustrated and it was on a regular THS). Second and third game I got out of trying to fight the lanes and moved to the 25. Glad to say I bowled a 176,191. I will never ever try to fight the lanes again because it is a loosing battle. Lesson learned.

We've all been there . . if anyone on this site tries to say different, they're lying lol. The quicker you learn that, the better. Don't do something because it worked last time, don't do something because you want to do it, find out what the lanes want, and accommodate.

Don't sweat it. Sometimes the lanes are of the female persuasion and she will never tell you exactly what she wants.
Last night for example. Flat 10 and flat 10. Make an adjustment. Stone 7 and Stone 9. Make an adjustment, 2/8/10 split. Make an adjustment. Flat 10 again but this time the 7 didn't fall either. Now its the 7th frame with two open frames already from the last two splits. Now I need to punch out to get my average. Who needs that kind of pressure???

Learning to read lanes and adjust is a combination art and science. I have been doing this 50 years and I still do some things that make no sense in hindsight.

You are on your way to being a more enlightened bowler!

We are all perpetual students in life, so you are already on the right path. ;)

I have learned that same lesson MANY times.

Hello,
Three idea's that have helped me. I'm not an expert but these have helped me not "fight" the lanes and game.
1-One ball at a time, one frame at a time, and ignore the score until it's necessary to look-then focus on the frame.
2-take advantage of what the lane gives you, don't try and make the lane do what YOU want it too.
3-Don't be afraid to make adjustments on the lane. I believe one of the dumbest idea's out there is to create an arsenal where you stand in one place. I'd imagine you'd need to buy everything in a pro shop to have this work, even then, you're going to run into situations where you have to move. To cover spares you have to move, why is it so horrible to move on the strike ball?
Just my thoughts. Again I'm not an expert but I have to work awful hard to be a decent bowler, these idea's have helped me immensely.
