I may be out for the season...
« on: November 08, 2008, 02:06:19 PM »
Well, as some of you know, I've been particularly injury prone the last couple of years. That's what happens when you hit 50.

Last weekend, coincidentally while bowling a tournament, I was standing, and turned - but my right knee didn't. It was a little sore for a few minutes, then felt fine, so I didn't think much about it. I've tried bowling both my leagues this week, and it's pretty bad...

Went to the doctor yesterday. He said "we'll treat it like it's a strain, but if it doesn't improve in a week or two, you'll have some serious decisions to make."

Sigh...

Get some rest and go from there and maybe take a week off or 3. You'll be alright!

Best of luck, mumzie. Hopefully it's not a torn meniscus. If it is one surgery is real easy and you'll only miss maybe a week or two of league. If they get inside and see more damage and need repair it, it's usually about a month. Both are arthroscopic procedures, which is nice.

A friend of mine had the latter and did miss a month, but now she's good as new.

Ouch, I hope all goes well and your back on the lanes soon.

I know i'm pretty lucky and fortunate to be young as i play football with the guys on the weekends and have had a few instances where my knee bowed the wrong way and I should have done much more damage than I did, i'm lucky as i'm fine and have just minor pain here and there but I could have seriously been hurt, but I'll chalk it up to being young.

Back on topic though, remember a little light stretching and use of heat and cold packs can help greatly in recovery time.

R.I.C.E. ... rest, ice, compression, elevation. Add some Ibuprofen, and you might just be OK ...
Good luck!

Hmm a strain, I remember them telling me that a few weeks ago too. An MRI showed that I had a fractured shin bone instead, I heard the crack so it was expected. Hopefully for you it is just a strain, take a few weeks off and rest it. If that pain persists don't wait too long before heading back to the Dr., good luck!

Ouch, I agree with the other poster to see a specialist sooner rather than later.

Update - I've seen the acupuncturist twice - the swelling's down, and it feels pretty good. As long as nothing presses on it from the inside of the knee pushing it out to my right, it's ok.

I bowled a few games last week - it felt pretty good. Tonight's the test - the second shift dry lanes - we'll see if I can stay with the shot...
