I must say, this is pretty odd.

Does anyone else do this?  That is to say, does anyone else use a spare ball for everything they leave?  no, i'm not talking single pin leaves, I mean EVERYTHING.  Even somewhat full racks.  Basically, anything you can ever leave.  I have no idea why, but for some reason i do this.  Strange this is, it works.  I almost always make pocket spares using my spare ball, but i can't shoot a normal strike with it.  Anyone else who does this?  For me, my strike ball is just that, a strike ball.

Unless, of course, I get the big 0 on the first ball.
Otherwise, spare ball.

Double wood - always use strike ball. Most everthing else, I use plastic. Once in a while, depending on the lane conditions, I will use my strike ball for the 3/9-pin and/or the 2/8-pin.

I use spare ball for everything except when I have a sleeper... kind of similar, but i find i need the drive of a strike ball for sleepers.

Plastic for everything except a washout.

  • Plastic never unexpenctantly jumps off the dry.

  • the 3 pcs cores will never flip over 2 feet from the pin.

  • Even if it bone dry and your plasitc ball hook 20 boards you can still get a consistent read and make adjustments

  • my 40 dollar spare can fall off into the gutter and run over a screw and it dosen't hurt my wallet

    I use a spare ball for all my spare shots, even the double wood ones. I see too many centers where the pattern is different so I figure it's better to stick to a system and make all my spares with one ball.

    The White Dot is used for everything except double wood and the 3-6-9-10 (I always leave the 9).  I like the White Dot for the bucket leave, because it stays in one spot due to the big puddle in the middle of the lane, and I can cover all four of 'em.

    For the first ones you mentioned that had spares on the right side, I stand somewhere on the left and aim for the shadow of the closest pin (I honestly don't look where I stand for my spares, I find it complicates things and as long as I come close to hitting the shadow, I've made the spare). I do the opposite for the left hand side spares. Same reason as greg7, tough tournament conditions make it really difficult to pick up spares with your strike ball, though I still use it for buckets, 2-8, 3-9.
