BR Owners
« on: December 09, 2004, 07:04:21 AM »
You guys suck, it's very obvious you care nothing for the site or what's going on.  It's a very apparent unanimous opinion that Wicked in his many incarnations is a parasite and needs to be dealt with.  This has not been done, and the users have been ignored.  The crap is not worth wading through, I've found a better site elsewhere.  REMOVE MY ACCOUNT (yeah, we'll see how long that takes, if you even pay attention to anything), I won't be back.

My site will be in beta test soon! I will also post some screenshots of the site (holiday skin).

Gee, that really sucks, cause I wasn't TRYING to be mature.  I tried being the quiet one that never ruffled anybody's feathers, but I'm gonna be a jerk on this one.  You said ignore the troll or go somewhere else.  What about people who just find this site for the first time and see all the junk on here?  If posts named "I want to have sex with chucksta with bowling pins up his ass" are up there, don't you think that's a deterrent to the growth of this site?  It doesn't sound to me like you have the interest of this site in mind.  Yeah, it's free, that's nice.  Do you want it to remain free?  Do you want it to progress?  Not everybody is going to ignore the trolls, some newbie or general idiot is going to keep feeding them no matter what you say.  BR has sponsors too, do you think that's good advertising for newbies?  Maybe I'll send bowling.com an email to show them what they're getting for their sponsorship.

As some will attest I'm very creative when it comes to getting around the language filter here.  I've been tempted to do so and write a long diatribe, being as foul and offensive as I can (and for those who've been watching, you ain't seen nothin' yet), but it's really pointless; when the tree falls in the forest and no one is there, it makes no noise.

Hampster - Just wondering what constructive criticism you've personally offerred for improving the site?  Have you ever run such a site?

Whoever said the people who post here make the site what it is.  You can never completely stop trolls (witness the life and continued success of spam eMail) and troll-like behavior, regardless of the site.

Why not take the best the site has to offer from the quality people here and ignore the BS and trolls?

On Edit - Sorry, the first version sounded insulting on review and it wasn't meant to be.

If someone isn't able to take 2 minutes to look past the "I'm gonna have sex with..." type posts, then they're probably not intelligent enough to contribute something meaningful.

I don't really care if the site remains free or not.  BR may be the current "800lb gorrilla" (phrase stolen from Tony), but it is not the end all be all of bowling web sites.  Every website/product has lifespan.  When that lifespan has reached it's end, a new product will step into it's place.  Should this site become unprofitable and the owner closes it down, I already know which sites the majority of the users will flock to, and that is where I will follow.

If you (and by you I am referring to the BR population that insists on posting how the site sucks) think the site sucks so much, either leave, or do something about it.  Complaining is not doing something.  If you want to do something try posting intelligent and informative posts and ignore the morons.  The webmaster even responded asking that the users please email them links to offensive posts to make it easier for them to clean the site, but that's not good enough, you need the webmaster to do everything for you. (waiting to hear that the Webmaster does "nothing")

DanH78 (or others), here's something I don't understand; I emailed the owner about Wicked 290.  He replied with the standard message about sending him links (his job, not mine, be that as it may).  Eventually Wicked290's posts were deleted.  BUT, W290 is now posting again and  (judging by the date of his sign on here) was NEVER removed from the site.  I find this puzzling.  A troll, agreed upon by all to be disruptive, with posts deleted, but still left on the site.  And, when said troll starts posting the same drivel, left alone.  If I am to act as a moderator (and I'm not) then I should not have to go the the owner to get a user banned or even posts deleted.  You will note that I've complained very little about the site itself.  My main complaint is that the owner is doing very little to maintain the site's integrity.  Will I leave? Very doubtful, but I'd like to see a little more involvement my management.

Rags, I pretty much agree with what you're saying.  Not knowing what other ventures the owners of this site are involved in, I can't comment on how they do their job.  Yes it would be nice if they were more involved, but currently, that's not gonna happen.  In the end, you get what you pay for.  Until things change one way or the other, the only thing we can do is ignore the idiots, and post enough good topics that the troll topics aren't that visible to the casual lurker.

Complaining about how much the site sucks will do nothing, this much I'm sure of.

What kind of politically correct bs "constructive criticism" do they need?  There's an idiot here clogging up traffic, and we want him removed.  I'm complaining because the "constructive criticism" has so far been ignored.  You have kids?  How many times does asking nicely actually get them to do something?  As far as wading through the crap, first impressions mean a lot, and if people can find the same information somewhere else without bothering with the trolls, what will keep them from doing that?  If I found a new site to me that had this problem, I wouldn't be there long.  And AGAIN, need I repeat myself a third or fourth time, I'm TRYING to be annoying and make some noise.  If you ever worked any kind of customer service and someone had a problem with a product, and you told them they should just work through the problems so they could see the real value, they'd look at you like you had a hole in your head.  If this site turns people off, it turns them off to the sponsors as well.

Well, Hampster, since you put it THAT way, I guess anyone who uses the web should just avoid all message boards because the trolls will obviously scare them away.

There is not a politically correct bone in my body.  Is calling you names going to convince you of that.  No, didn't think so.  That would be about effective as what you're trying to accomplish with this post.

It's a little extreme, but this is about as organized a forum as you'll EVER find.  www.pbreview.com

(no, not about bowling, but just compare the forum compared to here.)

For golf nuts www.freegolfinfo.com is about the best moderated forum out there.  Like Tony's sites it is moderated by the owner/webmaster.

Actually there are no trolls at the site I moved to, the owner is very involved with the site, and it's just a plain higher class site.

i totally disagree. this site is awesome. understand that its not easy for many people(including myself)to carry on a real bowling conversation. there aren't a whole lotta people that are good. too many people think they are good. i personally don't care about wicked. its stupid. most everything he puts up is stupid, but hey, there are stupid people out there. don't deal with it. its a very simple solution. i won't be going anywhere anytime soon. its a nice place to read posts, get other people's overviews of a lot of stuff and gain more knowledge of this game. many people here are very knowledgable to this game and lets not 4get that
