I need an explanation?
« on: February 18, 2010, 12:53:50 PM »
I came across a night of weird issues with my ball reaction that I have here and there at my home house I bowl at 2 nights a week.

Some nights my ball will not move at all, tonight was one of those nights, I mean I tried my Break S-75, Black Pearl reactive, Buzz and Hornet in practice and game 1, None of my stuff moved more than 5-7 boards, while everyone else from high rev no thumbers, to low rev guys were getting there ball to move just fine, some of them having to watch out for over movement. I tried up the back down the right side, move in to catch oil, getm more titlt into it to get it down the lane easier. All I got out of those shots was washouts, a 7-10 and misery for a game.

I just could not get why this happens to me sometimes, my roll felt very good tonight, and I look around when this is happening with my game and I am the only one having this problem. The only shot I had which I found at the end of game 1 was up the 5 board with my Hornet, whihc the next game shot 258 with that line.

The lanes are older synthetics from mid 90's, they claim to oil it 44 feet, and it is fairly dry looking from 5 out. The middle has been notorious of most occasions to have a good amount of oil, I use my Conquerer alot with great success staying in there. Tonight tried as similar in strenght ball but it wouldn't move at all, while others playing line in the oil had a good look with plenty of movement.

I just want to know what causes this problem for me. I am not a guy looking for my ball to hook out of the house, I play any line that will score, I just want a shot of some kind. I track really high like 1/4 from fingers and thumb, and mostly more up the back throe with 350-375 revs area, 16-18 MPH. Is it possible that all my equipment is just burning up way before the break point on nights like this? I know about using to strong equipment on dry lanes and it looking lousy on the back, but this is kinda noticable and tonight it just looked like they were skating all the way down.

Anyone else experience this? It doesn't happen all the time, but there are nights were i battrle this and my scores are not to good. 148 that first game tonight, haha. Just want tsome answers because i am baffled.

Not really sure what is going on. But if there is a shot up 5 then play it.

going through the same thing..same high track and low tilt.. I would say it is burning up and your low axis tilt and up the back release isn''t helping things..
although if it is burning up your weaker stuff should hook more.. but maybe not cause it seems like there isn''t really a backend.. 44ft is kinda long..

two things you can try.. just slow down and see if that helps.. slow down until the ball reacts.. sometime even if the lane is dry I just throw the ball too fast for it to react..
I am a bad judge of my own speed.  I think my ball is way slower than everyone else when in reality it is probably faster..

also.. try a bit more axis rotation so that as the ball burns up it will still have some side rotation on the backend..

make sure you have good timing and leverage at the line as well.. but that being said I subconsciously take hand out of the ball and get early timing when the lanes dry up... with the high track and low tilt if my ball is going to move on dry it usually moves way early.. so my mind makes me flatten out the ball just to get it through the heads.. but then it has nothing for the backend..

just throwing some things out there.. anything resemble what you are doing or seeing..

i would have to agree with jw with the axis rotation cause sometimes i have that problem. on a side note its hard to believe that your hornet is burning up that is a pretty tame ball thats why i am leaning towards that you need more axis rotation. hope you figure it out.

Well the Hornet had a great look the second game down the 5 board, anything left of that and it was gone.

As of late they have been on the pretty dry side of things, I have been using my Buzz and hornet exclusivly, which is rare. I tuck my pinky to get around the side of it more (higher axis rotation) and that works pretty good for me when moving inside on nights were the inside is a good shot.

If it was oily, whihc is couldn't have been, in theory I would have been the one who would have had a better look based on my style and how much of the ball I cover. My speed as j-w said could be an issue, i throw the ball quite a bit faster than the peopl other than the no thumber on our pair on my regular release.

I know one thing i am going to try the next time this happens is taking my hand way out of it and just throwing the ball with dead hand to get a low amount of revs, and see if it has a movement similar to what others are getting.

There were to people on the pair that had me scratching my head on my ball reaqction because the no thumber who has an up the back release even with no thumb was throwing a never cleaned or resurfaced X-factor that looked like the track was pretty worn to a low grit, and another guy who was using a pin down Epic Quest never resurfaced or cleaned for that matter, he had prolly 325 revs and both of them were playing the middle part of the lane with great reaction.
