What companies sell the tool used to etch balls for drilling.
You need to compete for something greater than just winning.

Some drillers use a scribe, a punch tool with a very sharp point.

Scott Ball Engraver.  Innovative Bowling Products sells it.  I'm not sure if Jayhawk bowling products sell them.  They typically sell between $900-$1000 new.

In laying out a bowling ball to be drilled some people lay the drill pattern out with a grease pencil and some use a scribe to scratch the markings on the bowling ball. The reason is because the driller believes that they can be more precise and accurate using the scribe method due to the small line that is scratched on the bowling ball. I have never heard the term etching a bowling ball.

Are you serious?!!?  You wanted to know what a scribe is?  Hope you aren't actually trying to drill a ball for anyone but yourself.
