Ball suggestions
« on: December 04, 2010, 03:15:04 AM »
Hey,

I'm looking at the collection of balls I have, and I'm wanting suggestions on one/two balls to add to it. I have a (Sorry, I don't have layout info. I can get it if needed):

Reign of Fire - drilled to roll early.
Track 920A - hard arc for me (not angular) - 4000 sanded
Hy-Road - Hard Arc (slightly polished)
505A - More angular than the rest I have (going to get it polished)

I'll need a spare ball, but besides that, what kind of ball/reaction should I look into? Avg. ball speed is 15 - 15.5 at the pin deck, and not sure on my rev rate but I would say 300 rpm?

In place of a "spare ball" i'd suggest one of the Urethane's that are beginning to populate the market. They're a great tool to have on fried out lanes, for later leagues and in tournaments. I picked up an Ogre Urethane last spring and it's saved my butt a few times.

Being unfamiliar with track equipment you may look for something to fit between a plastic/urethane ball and the 505a. Maybe a weaker pearl resin ball drilled to control the backend. Would fully recommend the Ogre Pearl as the low diff prevents the ball from wanting to flare a lot downlane. Drilling can change this, but I've fallen in love with mine over the past few weeks.

Seeing how you have track and storm I would say you should get a 916 AT and polish it a little or an Anarchy so that you have something with a good midlane and really strong on the back. And something at the bottom like a 300c or Natural for under your 505A Your arsenal is very good for med heavy to mediuim light. You may need some for both ends heavy and dry

kind of what I was thinking.  916AT between your ROF and 920A, 300C below your 505A.

Yeah, I was thinking of covering the extremes. Thanks everyone! I've never really thought of getting a Urethane for a plastic ball, but it might kill two birds with one stone for me! A drier lane ball/spare ball. Looking at my ROF right now and the reaction I'm getting from it (just sanded it to 1000), I'm not sure if it's just rolling out or it's starting to die. Anywho, I'm thinking at 916AT would definitely be stronger than the ROF from what I've seen.

Btw, I'm still really impressed with the 505A. Got it polished again today and boy, does that thing boom in the backend!
