For one thing, you will notice that the span feels shorter even though it isn't. For some people that hit up on the ball with inserts with 1/4" pitch, switching to ovals helps them quit hitting up on the ball. For others, they may and may not get as much leverage on the ball as it comes of their fingers. You just have to try both ways and decide which feels/works best.
