moving pins?

recently i was at a YABA tournament and i shot, perfect pocket and everything. the stupid 9 pin moved to the 4 pin slot. is that a strike since that wasnt the right pin????

No it is not a strike.  The pin should be placed back in the 9 pin slot and shot as spare.

no...since it is still standing, it cannot be a strike.  if it is picked up by the pinsetter, it is now a 4 pin.  if it gets knocked down by the pinsetter, it gets respotted on the 9-pin spot.  thats just a tough break...ive done it before...i know what its like.

It's even worse when you hit dead-flush solid and have a slow corner-pin knocked over by and then replaced with the "messenger" head pin.

hotwire has the right of it - the pin will stay where it is unless the setter (or other piece of equipment) knocks it over at which point it will be respotted to its original position.

Stick around bowling long enough and you'll see some very odd happenstances.  My father likes to tell the story of leaving the 7-8-9-10 (entire back row).  It started out as a 4-7-9-10, but the 2-pin (which typically "trips" the 4-pin on a high pocket shot for righties) went to the sideboard, hit the bottom of the 4-pin and slid it over to replace the 8-pin.

janderson - did they let him throw two balls at it?...cuz that only seems fair.  ive seen the 4-7-9-10 left, but never the whole back row.  when u bowl so much, and have people, including myself, entering the pocket at extreme angles, these things are going to happen.  and when the oil ends up on the pin decks, anything is a possibility.  i sent the 10 pin over to the 7 spot once...only it didnt make it all the way and it was put back on the 10 spot...i make almost all of my 10 pins, but i hate them!
