Women's Open was TERRIBLE! USBC/PBA are a Joke!!
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:44:36 PM »
Why does the USBC and the PBA have to make bowling a novelty?  Bowling outside, bowling in a football stadium, bowling in a baseball stadium, bowling in an arena, bowling at Six Flags, bowling with gold pins, bowling in different houses using the same ugly @ss backdrops, bowling with plastic balls, bowling trick shots, bowling 5 different formats in the same season, bowling on the official PBA oil patterns, bowling every different way EXCEPT for the way the game has been bowled for decades.

It's BS.  The ball companies and sponsors should be furious.  I'm sure Ebonite plastic balls will be flying off the shelves now the Kelly won the Women's Open with one.  If I were the women, I would be furious, too.  They were just made to look stupid on prime time TV.  You average 230 or 240 all week and in the finals you can't break 150.

It's pathetic what they are doing to the game.

For a number of years, Professional Bowling has been one gimmick after another.  The Women US Open was just another.  It appears that the leadership has lost touch with the bowlers and the fan base.  They have no clue what they have to do to put together a good tournament.  Sponsors of the past are gone and many of the newer ones coming aboard during the past few years have already gone.

As far as practicing on the this US Open shot, well, there was no shot.  All these women we saw on TV are great bowlers that can repeat shots with the best.  Unfortunately, they were repeating the shot but could not get the same ball reaction more than once.  It was a joke, especially for a Major that paid 40 Grand on top.  I have to feel sorry for them.  Why ? Because they do not have many tournaments to bowl in and everyone they do bowl is very special.

The only fix I an think of is to get rid of the current leadership (PBA, BPAA and USBC) and bring in fresh replacements, not just moving the same "Good old boys" around into new positions.  That is my fix for bowling !

ESPN did that a few years ago and didn't show all the of the finals but did show a lot of the week that led up to it.  I believe Duke beat the youngster Ciminelli.  Should have heard all the bitching on here how everybody hated it.  PBA is in a no-win situation.  You got guys who will accept nothing except the way it was done back in the 80'-90's and you have the others that want it to change and modernize.  Bowling fans are a joke anymore.  They don't want to promote the sport, they just want to bitch about it.

I have a neat idea.  What about making a reality tv show about the pros, that coincides with the toutnaments, show america something different, and still show the tournaments.  i feel that would help ratings, especially if theres feuding just like all of the other highly watched shows :o

idk, id watch it.

I like watching them bowl. The week the pba showed some of the qualifing matches leading up to the finals was very nice.

Theres a simple solution, if you understand one thing. Bowling doesnt appeal to the masses. If you know that and then gear bowling towards bowlers you will have the most success possible for your sport and also pick up some casual fans. Many of the bowlers I know dont watch bowling anymore because its been bad tv for too long with these gimmicks.

Hmmmmmm.  Wish I knew what you were trying to allude to.  Pretty hard for Neil Young to do something about the slavery he sang about in "Southern Man" when he wasn't born until 100 years after the fact and in another country to boot.  Guess he could have gone down to Alabama as a 19 year old Canadien in '64 to help with the civil rights movement.  Given his age and his nationality I doubt he would have had much effect.  Your post is without meaning or direction.

What does this have to do with the topic of the thread?  You've taken trolling to a new low on here, RingyDingy.

If your not going to have the whole tournament outdoors why have your championship match outdoors?

The media tries to get non interested people interested in any sport to increase ratings.
Hence, do you think any real football fans watch the 7 hour pre game for the Super
Bowl?  They never cater to their fan base.

I think this was a unique setting to say the least.  With that said how did this venue showcase these woman? From a bowlers perspective, not in a good way at all.  I would think your target market is "the bowlers" and seeing the amount of negative threads on here as well as facebook, they did not satisfy the needs of their major audience.  Let's face it the majority of all people are not browsing their guide button looking for bowling. Yes they may stop quick when flicking thru the channels and hey they might of thought it was cool to see bowling in the middle of the road, but I highly doubt that will turn them into avid watchers.  I'm a bowler, I watched the show, and I wasn't impressed with the way it played out.
