I was just curious what most of you on ballreviews.com believe is the ideal pin length and top weight combination when purchasing a bowling ball and why?
Personally, I'm partial to 2-3 oz of top weight and 3-4 inch pins due to the amount of friction I typically encounter in the South. This set up usually helps me get easy length with a nice readable pop in the backend.

It really depends on how I plan on drilling the ball. However when I order balls for the shelf in the shop I will usually ask for 3" pin and top wt between 2.5 and 3.5 oz.
As for the pins, if it's a Storm produced ball I'll go for the 2.5-3.0" most of the time.

Depends on the layout. For me 2-4.5" pin with 2-4oz top weight will work for most of the layouts I use.
Usually I prefer the longer pin when going with a pin up layout and a small val angle and longer pin to pap layout. So I can get the cg closer to my center grip line with out having to worry about too much finger weight.( I don't use finger inserts)

As most of my equipment is drilled up in one of two patterns I get balls with the top weight between 2.75-3.25oz. top weight and the pin out 3-4".

All depends on the drill and if I am going pin up or down. Due to my span if I am going over the fingers have to have 3.5 or longer, most times use a 4". Pin down I go 2 -3 and then have to use the pin and CG to determine what I can do with that ball. Since I buy direct from 900 tend to get a lot of balls that are pin out and at times a couple inches so changes my plan many times.
