Ideal Points System
« on: October 18, 2013, 04:13:08 AM »
What is your idea for the "ideal" points system for league play?

5 person team for me would be a 40 or 50 point system.   1 point per individual game, 5 points per team game, and either [1 point per individual totals, 5 points for team totals] or [2 points for individual totals and 10 for team totals]

Either way, I like the idea for individual matchups, and I like he idea of making totals count for something

That's a standard match point system.

here's a variation of Match Points that uses a Pins over Average Method.

The winner of the individual points are determined by the number of pins each individual bowled over their
average.

The bowler highest over their individual average will earn the point, even if the opposing bowler bowled higher scores.

Example:
The first bowler on team 1 has an average of 140. This bowler bowls a score of 155. This is 15 pins over his/her average.
The first bowler on team 2 has an average of 198. This bowler bowls a score of 208. This is 10 pins over his/her average.

Even though the first bowler on team 2 had the higher score, the first bowler on team 1 earns the point because he/she was
higher over their average, 15 pins compared to 10 pins.

Could do the "Team versus Field", this one is rarely seen.

In this your team plays all the teams in the league at one time. Here you receive points (usually 1) for each team you beat in the league.

Example: If your league has 12 teams, the maximum amount of points per game you could win is 11.

I have never seen this in league play, but it sounds awesome!  It takes out catching the wrong team on the wrong night aspect.  Say we bowl a team that just lights it up and so do we but lose all points by 1 pin each.  We'd go 0-whatever the total.  With this system we could have still won 10 pts per game based on your 12 team example.  That would be awesome!!! I'd bowl in that league!

We do a 30pt system for a 5 man mens league.

1pt head to head a game...5pts a game total
4 pts for the team win.......4 pts a game total
3 pts for a series win.......

Its a great scoring system, we have been doing for about 5 years

I could see making a tweak to the Team Vs Field, and make beating the team you are bowling with worth 2 points, all other teams worth 1 point.

...isn't that basically just 100% handicap of [large number]?

Yes it is the equivalent of 100% handicapping.

But if you go into a league meeting and purpose a 100% handicap, everyone will freakout.

Suggest a POA system and they might think about it a minute before they shoot it down.

I really like this system. Bowled in a league for several years that used this.
