Do you trust "staff" reviews of bowling balls?

Not to pick on Brunswick, but I looked at the reviews for the evil siege..

18 reviews

16 of them are from staff, all of them glowing reviews..

Now, I understand that they are usually the first ones to have them in their hands, but by the shear lack of other review, it tells me it's not that great.

Am I way off here??

this is why i think the balls should be thrown by the throw bot.


people goto a web site enter there style..(speed,axis tilt,axsi rotation, rev rate) with that info then the throw bot begins to throw the ball dialed toward the possiable customer.  the only other change would be the position of the bot on the lane ..target & break point.


thats the best video idea i come up with..

I think that would be a great idea.  But I don't see how that would be cheap because I'm sure you would have to pay for that service...maybe a subscription or something.  Also I hate to say this but most bowlers don't know their stats(tilt, axis rotation, etc)  I believe all bowlers should know that info but a majority don't.

I have a couple of comments from when I was with Brunswick and we were looking at requiring staffers to post reviews....

My initial response was that I was against it....many staffers, on ALL staffs, rarely can spell more or less be literate.
Someone mentioned giving more imformative reviews....such as pros and cons, as well as conditions, etc. These are bowlers, some being pro shop operators not 'reps'.
Very few...VERY FEW reps, more or less bowlers or operators, see true ball motion and/or reaction and can explain or relate it. They are giving their view as well as impressions.
Staffers, no matter what level, are or should stick by their company....they are going to spin it to the positive or at least try....

And the comments on not trusting your pro shop operator....you would be AMAZED, at how many BAD ball drillers or pro shop operators there are...or should I say uneducated or antiquated in their views or techniques.

I'm amazed with this as well..it's amazing with how many seminars that are ran at my distributor each year that I don't see every shop attending every single one.  They're easily affordable and are always ran during the morning.  Virtually every single one has new insite about layouts, surface adjustments, etc that it's easy to constantly evolve if you have an open mind.  I know it's not common knowledge to the average bowler but I've had way too many customers say.."why are you drawing on my ball."...I say.."I'm measuring your pap so I can accurately drill your ball."...then I get..."I've never been to a shop that does that."....really....what does it take to find someone pap..like an extra 2 minutes if your slow....

It is unfortunately not that much of a surprise...most pro shop operators know what works for them and automatically transer that to their customers.
Most shop guys tend to go to seminars merely for the specials.
Also, a lot of the guys that go to learn are not always the ones that need it....the ones that need it tend to think they don't...and it shows in their work.

Sad but true. From my local area, there are 3 pro shops. One is an idiot an liar who claims that he could have gone pro in the US (sure...), one is an old scghool driller who just puts a label drill on anything I see from his shop, and the last one is someone who is IMHO a real expert who is not able to punch up a ball to match your needs and judge your game, but who is also able to discuss with customer, not talking customers into equipment. I was lucky to end up with the latter, I do not want to think about my fate if I'd have been stuck with one of the others...

No odd ball I don't think you are way off. Staff members must always be positive in there reviews to the public. If they say something like it is better suited for a different style then mine. This equals the ball sucks but they can't say it out loud. Most companies even "SUGGEST"  that u get onto ballreview and talk it up.

Your not way off at all, of course they are going to be bias which in that case it is not really a judgmental review but just a description of the product.
