Ideas on a great up and in ball...
« on: April 08, 2008, 06:00:03 AM »
I'm looking for a ball to play the up and in shot with. I give the ball a lot of hand and use a lot of lane doing it. I now want to take my game to a up and in shot so I can be more on point. Any ideas? and thanks

There is no magic bowling ball will turn you into a up and in player, there are some physical game changes that need to be made as well.

I partially agree with Chawk on this.  There isn't a magic ball, but there are some that could be suited better than others.

Two things must happen for you to play the "up and in"
1) The bowler must learn to play that game if they are not familiar with it.
2) (this is a big one) Conditions must permit the bowler to play there.
Yes, you can force a ball off the point and shoot BB's, but that's just not bowling.

My recommendation is this.  Continue to pursue the goal of becoming a versitile bowler.  Shoot to be the bowler who can play deep, play the track or play the twig.  In the long run you'll be better off.

The final advice that I have is to make sure you have a well-rounded arsenal that fits your game and the conditions that you will be bowling on.

Good luck to you, Tommy!
If you would like to discuss your goals within the game, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Ok Im assuming you want to quit being such a cranker and move over to stroker area...well im transitioning with this on the sport shots cause its easier to go straight up the boards on those, less mistake room. But anyways, if you have a lot of revs like me with moderate speed of about 17-18MPH, what I use to play much straighter is a polished or pearl ball with a weak layout. I can't throw any ball up the 10-5 board on a THS, they all start up half way down the lane, but I can adjust my release and come up the back of the ball and break the wrist to lower revs. Its all about my release to play over there. Its uncomfortable to adjust your release because your doing something new and out of your comfort zone, but it pays off when making you a more rounded bowler.

As far as ball, something pearly drilled weak and that will help keep you on the right side of the pocket.

I've had a lot of luck doing the following:

1) Go to eBay, find something about 7 years old that has been discontinued.
2) Drill it weak.
3) Enjoy.

I have two balls that I paid a collective $50 for NIB, an Ebonite Matrix Conquest and a Track Threat. I'm sure they were strong pieces in their day (I think both were made 2001-2002), but today, they are mild as vanilla -- just the thing for going up the boards.

Three things to do/get:

1. Change your release.

2. Toxic.

3. Do NOT go back to your old release from that area or ball, you'll be disappointed and frustrated.
