Idiot Bowler
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:51:32 AM »
I can't beleive what happened in league. A guy with eleven in a ROW decides he is going to get an 8 count on his last ball. WHY? HE WANTED A 298 RING!!!

WELL THE DUMB #%#^ GETS HIS 8 COUNT, then finds out there is NO 298 RING!!

THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY!! He was steamed about it.

But this ticks me off....people like this should lose their USBC card.

A slap in the face?  Isn't that going a bit overboard?

Look, most anyone who straps on a pair of bowling shoes dreams of one day shooting a 300.  The REALITY, most are not good enough to do so.  Even with some regular practicing, that number probably wouldn't jump up all that much.

Not only does one have to have talent, but he/she also has to have control of their nerves.

Now if someone has accomplished this often enough, does it matter whether or not he/she punches out (assuming the game is not on the line)?  No, it doesn't.

For those of you that want to cry "SANDBAGGER," I ask this:  What of the bowler who needs a mere 3 pins to win the game and moves off his gutter-line to throw it right down the middle to get 5...is that sandbagging?

If you REALLY want to call "SANDBAGGER" on a 298, a whopping 2 pins less than the highest score allowed and an "obvious" attempt to lessen one's average, then I shall call you...MORON!

Yes EagleHunter... I was entirely serious... Well done, I feel suitably admonished. If I ever need a new sense of humour I shan't ask you, without even enough for yourself.

Also, no, your example isn't sandbagging, and obviously isn't so.

I hope your parents are proud.

Speaking of having a HIGH opinion of one's self...
I was not speaking to you directly, though I am now.  There were other posts within this thread which talked about not trying your best on EVERY shot, which by definition would be sandbagging.

If I wished to call you out directly, I would certainly address you.  As I did not, I most certainly was not singling you out.

Just remember...with this....This guy's main reason to shoot 298 was to get a ring. He wanted a ring and it he thought it was free. When he found out it wasn't he got mad. Maybe the statement going after all 290 someting games was to cover up the fact that he looked stupid because of the ring thing.

It makes me wonder now...if he knew that it wasn't free...he might of went for the 300.

We had another bowler get mad when he found out he would have to pay for a ring too. His statement was that's why I pay sanction fees. The dude was acting like little kid not getting his candy.

I don't think I should have to pay for my awards, It is BS that we have have to pay for a ring after we pay the USBC to bowl every year. Where is out sanction money going if it is not used to buy awards? That maybe a dumb question but I really don't know.

Mainzer,

Think about it. How many 300 Games are thrown a year in USBC. It was over 50,0000 2 years ago. That's a lot $$$ going to awards.

I will state this...I think your first should be free but come on there are guys out there that bowl 2 a year. A friend of mine was at the Hall of Fame. As a gift he printed out my 300 game for me. He said a guy was there and he had 21. That's great he bowled 21 but does someone like this need 21 300 rings? In my opinion its ridiculous.

but you only get awarded one a year so even if you have multiples in a season you still just get one. I should not have to PAY them to AWARD MY acheivment that is BS

Just putting my two cents in here

I have 3 300's this yr (29 total) USBC only allows 1 ring per year per award if the game is out and I'm not hurting my team what does it matter if I want an 11 in a row plaque and throw it in the gutter? As for those that yearn and dream about rolling a 300 it's called practice!!! Not my fault if you can't do it!! My chose I will do as I wish. As for the hardest score to bowl it is a 292 there is only 4 sanctioned in the history of ABC and USBC

AGAIN THE 298 RING IS AVAILABLE IT IS JUST NOT GIVEN AS A FREE AWARD
PRICE: 79.99 SHIPPED

This scenario is what makes it (In my opinion) wrong with this sport. The 298 ring was probably implemented for those who almost got to 300 (Someone TRYING for a 300). In years past it was a lot harder to throw a 300. Since then...with the THS and High End Balls, the 300 is so common the 11 in a row award should (In my opinion) go away.

Someone going after (When they have the front 11) An ELEVEN in a row award is like someone running in a race (year after year) always comming in first and wanting a second place finish. So....he stands 2 feet from the finish line waiting for the guy in second to take first place.

There is no other sport out there that promotes someone to shoot a lesser score. Think about it....its ridiculous. If there was NO AWARD the guy would NOT have tried for it. I can GUARANTEE THAT!!

i am sure not the only one who knows this but ,i found out when i shot my 300 that only around 1%of all bowlers shoot 300 games. Ther are people who enjoy the game and strive to do well every time they bowl .for me it is a disgrace to have an ability and make mockery of it that way.To act as if you are so good that you have to try to be bad and take pleasure in knowing i am so good i can miss to fill in my awards book. But, on the other hand,I guess if thats what gets your juices flowing then have at it.
I was bowling last night, and my avg. is only 201,but its the first time i have been over 200 so its kind of a big deal to me to shoot 600 whenever i can.Small goal ,but its mine. 236 first game and a dismall 150 second, should have changed ball ,but it was new and i was stubborn.Last game with ball change Im on track for an ok game ,but, we are losing.I could have thrown off after the 8th and tried to lower my avg. maybe and maybe in those instances its better to sandbagg for another day.The way bowling is today i have heard on many occasion that very same advice. It was ,however, important for me to maintain, to be able to say i shot avg.,to say, even in a losing effort, i did my best. So if when bowling for a 300 and someone leaves an 8 count on purpose could i congratulate him or pitty him ,when there have been so many to leave that 8 count and carry it with them for months, because they were so close to perfection. Its a slap in the sports face that you would try to do less than that.
