Does CG maddah when finding unmarked MB?
« on: April 06, 2008, 02:59:06 PM »
Just popped into my head today...

Let's say I have a ball with an unmarked MB. The quick-n-dirty way to find the MB, for the 99% of us without access to a Determinator, is to draw a line from pin through CG out to 6 3/4 inches and mark the MB there.

If this is true, kicking out the CG or keeping it in grip center gives you two different hook shapes, as you could end up moving your MB all the way from thumb-positive quadrant near the VAL to thumb-negative quadrant, in the track, just by swinging the CG about 2 inches laterally relative to the pin.

True or false?

ohhhhhh.

Ok, let me try this again!

Sooo...Massbiasmaddah!

Let's play the "what if" game.  I have two asymmetric bowling balls, both with the  same exact specs pre-drill.  I drill each with the pin in the same spot, but one with the MB in my track, the other on the right side of my thumb (I'm a righty).  How much difference in reaction will there be?

Some questions on statements above.

I know few bowlers(at least high trackers) who say thumb weight doesn't matter and bottom weight vs top weight doesn't matter.

RE weightholes....if the weighthole doesn't hit core then no change in reaction.  I beg to differ....

No offense, but this is an intelligent discussion, so if all you're going to do is try to lump it in with the usual b*tchfests, please leave the thread. I'm trying to get some actual information here. I'm tired of people ruining these threads with immature behavior. Thanks in advance.

LuckyLefty...I completely agree with what you said about weight holes.  I have a T-Road Pearl and threw it both with and without a weight hole.  The flare rings are much more spread out now, and it can handle more oil and carry-down better.  I think weight holes are substantial to a reaction, whether they hit the core or not.

Lucky lefty,

Even though weight holes is a topicjack, When you drill a weight hole and it does not touch the core it will affect ball motion to a degree.  However, when you touch the core, you will affect it greater since you are changing the most dense part of the bowling ball.
