You're not doing anything wrong other than having a false expectation.  That 1 yr or 2 yr 'fix' allows you to see older posts, the Search is a separate feature and only goes back something like 30 days.  After applying the 2 yr fix, you should be able to go to a forum and see older posts from 2 yrs ago. You should be able to see a lot more pages available than previously and you can go to each page and scroll through the topics.  When you select an older topic, you will be able to see and read all posts from the last two years.

There used to be a separate hack for the Search, but that hack is no longer working.
