If I hate particles, what about heavy oil resin?
« on: May 04, 2004, 09:08:41 PM »
Hey everyone,

I've tried to like solid particle balls, I really have, but they just don't match up well with me and my game. The only solid particle I've ever liked was my Granite Gargoyle. But I digress, if I hate solid particle balls, and I do, is it possible to get a heavy oil reactive and drill it to roll early for heavy conditions? I know that nothing hooks in heavy oil, and that straighter lines are needed in those cases, so no need for the lectures. But I'm wondering if I can set up a heavy oil reactive for use as my soup ball. Any thoughts? Here are a few of the balls that I was thinking about for such an experiment:

Dynothane Anomaly
Brunswick Ultimate Inferno
Sanded  Storm X-Factor Deuce
Sanded Ebonite Killer Instinct
Sanded Visionary Charcoal Executioner

Any suggestions on other balls that might work, and/or drillings would be helpful.

Gene,

I am not going to suggest a ball. I am only going to comment that in most cases a strong DULL reactive may be strong enough. As you already stated, NOTHING hooks in heavy oil, so if you have to play straighter and have the proper surface on a reactive ball, it will move enough.

I would go with the Sanded Charcoal executioner.

I have two drilled and one in the box.
One is drilled label leverage, and one is drilled
315.  When I first got the and was doing research
on how to drill them, I was told that the ball was strong
enough no to need strong drill patterns put on it.  They were
right, I couldn't use it out of box in leagues, I tried it in
nationals last year and it worked well.

If you are going to use it for a heavey oil ball, I would use a stacked leverage, or 10:#0 leverage on it.

Gene, I'm just wondering what solid Particles you have tried.  I have to admit I haven't liked very many, but there is nothing like a solid particle when the lanes are flooded with substantial carrydown or weak backends.  For those conditions, I've found a couple of solid particles that worked for me, even though I, like you, haven't liked solid particles much.

Go with the Ultimate. I have never seen such hook and power from a reactive ball.

Like others, I won't suggest a specific ball.  Find yourself a reactive resin ball with a strong cover and a low-RG.  Dull the cover and drill the ball pin-on-PAP or with the pin close to the PAP.  That will get the ball rolling ASAP which is generally what you need in soup.
