If you don't want opinions...
« on: March 09, 2005, 06:14:07 AM »
This is kind of a mini rant, so bear with me.

If you don't want others opinions, why do you ask?  I've seen quite a few posts where people offer views conflicting (I mean solid arguments, not flame wars) with the original poster.  Then the person deletes the post and makes a new similar one.  What up with that?  If nothing derogatory is written, clarify your position and keep the post alive.  This is part of the reason I don't post as much anymore.  Too much time is spent answering questions, only to have the entire post deleted because someone got an opinion they didn't like.

That's what I love the most about this board. Everyone has an opinion and people should be aware that not everyone is going to think exactly as you do, especially if you already have a firm idea in mind. I've learned more from multiple perspectives on the same issue, especially when it comes to lane play, ball drillings and how to tackle certain conditions than if I just kept things to one idea and tried to go from there.

Maybe these people are looking for an ego-boost or a pat on the back?

I understand how you feel about formulating a concise, conflicting reply only to have it removed. Hang in there.  Sometimes you can glean whether or not a person will weather a storm of conflicting viewpoints by the way the original post is stated.

I prefer constructive criticism.  If I suck, it's fine to tell me but also offer some suggestion on how to correct teh suck.

That's my point Bones.  As long as there isn't any flaming, leave everything there.  There are tons of other people reading the posts that gain information from every post.  Some are too shy or have a similar problem and don't want to make a duplicate post.  There's nothing worse than going back to a post with good information only to find it gone.

Janderson may have said it best.

Bones,

That should be put up as part of the HEADER and WARNING on BallReviews.com, maybe in size 5,instead of the standard size 3.

It stands as a corollary to that ancient "salt in the wound":

On the other hand, there are some people so bullheaded that no amount of debate will change their minds.

I think this is part of it too!!!  Some people just have their head in the.....sand, and don't want to see any views different than their own.  Read more, post less, that's my MO here lately.

Very true Mike, but I'm not even talking about the lengthy ones like the CG means nothing post.  I know people were getting frustrated there after failing to get their point across.  It's like telling a Buzzhead that their ball isn't necessarily the best ball on the market.    It's mostly the simple ones with 5-10 replies.  Twice recently I've answered requests for arsenal evaluations.  After seeing a bunch of heavy oil balls and asking what they intend on doing for med/light patterns, they delete the post instead of saying they'll look into it.  Anyone else who might have been in a similar predicament no longer has access to the information.

But even that is ok when they are expressing a contrary opinion.  If I post an opinion with which you totally disagree and I can not convince you otherwise, that doesn't mean I should delete the post!
