I assume I'll have to go through a whole plug of the thumb and redrill or whatnot.  I'm just not used to what the ball is supposed to feel like in my hand I guess.

well, if it is off by just a little bit, like a 1/16 of an inch, then your ball driller could just drill out the slug that is in your ball (seeing as you have a slug) and just put a new one in and redrill it. If it is off by more, then a larger slug can be put into the ball and then drilled into. If you dont have a slug, then you would have to plug the hole and re-drill it. Most ball drillers could do this process in 30 min.

Whoa Whoa Whoa. What kind of pro shop do you go to buddy. Ball plug drys in 15 minutes. I dont know what lies your shop is telling you, but the stuff i use to plug takes 15 min after i mix it and pour into the hole.

I dont know what either of you are talking about. At my shop we use the Master (or is it ultimate) plug. Its a name brand. Ove you mix it in 15 min it is hard and cool, then all i do is cut it down and sand and im done.

If I have to plug and redrill it to move the thumb, how much does that impact the performance of my ball?  I feel like such and idiot.    I really am not totally confident in how it should "feel" on my hand at this point.  As it is now I feel like I'm stretching my hand and could drop it at any second, though I didn't ever drop it when I threw it.  Actually threw it really well too.    Maybe I just have to get used to it, I dunno.  He used some weird ball thingy to get my span, and he asked me how it felt, I told him to make it a bit longer, then a bit shorter.  Should have went with his original maybe.  It probably is only a small adjustment though.  It's just my first brand new ball and I wanted a perfect first drill.  I suppose soon enough I'll know exactly how it should be laid out every time, but right now I really don't.

for a 1/16 of an inch change.(I do all the time).

IF needed fast and I'm not worried about perfect appearance.

About 10 minutes.

To shorten.
I will slightly drill out front of hole and add shims to back of finger insert(match box cover etc).  I glue shims to finger insert let dry...slide in and then glue complete insert and shim in.

To lengthen the opposite, back of hole drilled out and shim put in front.

It's a great way to get your grip virtually perfect once good or correct very small drilling mistakes.
When you really really really got to have it .....Now!

PS remember a significant decrease in bevel from a previous level can fit seem long too!  Even if same length.

Ok, so I reevaluated a little bit.  The thing is, I was thinking my span on the other balls I have been using is a bit on the short side.  So I went to a new driller this time and I think what is going on is that it's actually "right" now so it feels a little weird for me.  On the balls I have been using (all from the same driller), when my thumb is inserted all the way the first crease of my first knuckle almost reaches the back of the finger holes.  On this new drilling, the crease reaches about halfway across.  I'm going to give it a few more tries and see if it's just the newness of the different drilling that is bugging me a bit.  Perhaps the grip for my ring finger is a tad too tight.  When I threw it last night (it's a new Big Deal in case you were wondering) I threw it really well.  That ball freaking MOVES and I was able to play deep inside lines that I couldn't dream of with the Sling Blade.  I could throw it just about anywhere and it came back and hit like a ton of bricks.  So I'll just give it a little time.
