Out of your list I would have to say Red Pearl Hammer.

If I get to choose, I want a Burgundy Hammer polished and drilled Axis!

Nah, not of my list.  Create your own list

Burgundy Hammer--Heavy
Dull Blue Hammer --heavier mediums
Black Hammer-------normal mediums
Pink Hammer---------medium light
Blue Pearl Hammer-Light

That's the arsenal that I'd try to build. Fab had the market cornered when it came to outstanding urethane stuff. However, here are a few other great urethane pieces:

  AMF Sumo
  AMF Cobra (Black)
AMF Angles (Except the gold, man that looked like a ball of mustard!)
  Col U-Dot
  Ebo Nitro

There are obviously many more that could have made the list, but those are some of the balls that I saw kicking major butt back in the day.

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

My four-ball urethane arsenal would be:

Scarlet Quantum, box condition, drilled label leverage
Red Hammer, light polish, drilled CG-axis
Another Red Hammer, polished, drilled with label shift but no XH
Black U-Dot, glossed like a marble, CG in grip center

I already have the axis Red Hammer in the bag.  The other three are still in the closet, undrilled, waiting for the day when resin and particle equipment get banned.   No, I'm not holding my breath.

Now if it were to be today's style of urethane balls and not "yesterdays":

Thunder Flash
Slate Blue Gargoyle
Teal Flame

Just another lefty hack with revs.......

How about 2 black hammers - one box, one polished.

Probably a Slate Blue Gargoyle ....

At least it has a true dynamic core. WHy go back to old technology, like Burgundy Hammers and Black Angles?

The old saying, "You can't go home again" has lots of levels of meanings.

The only urethane ball I've ever owned was the wine U Dot.  I was on my 13-year "hiatus" when reactives came out.  I still have my U Dot, but it's really tracked out.  I loved that ball!

My four-ball arsensal would be:
1. Vector 2 - slight polish, axis weight.
2. Red Hammer - slight polish, axis weight (slightly more angular than my Vector 2).
3. Black Rhino - highly polished.
4. Blue Phantom - sanded.

None of the above.  Put a low rg, asymetrical core on any urethane shell and you would have a ball that would knock the socks off anything from the 80's.  Then cut the oil back a little bit, and everyone would be wondering why guys were still averaging 230 with all the high tech shells gone.

Would the Phantom fall into this category?

I see a trend here with the urethane hammers.  I too would go with the

Blue, Pink, Black, Red Hammers for all conditions

I can hit 10 pins!!!  But I usually forget the rest of the rack

Blue Enforcer, Black Enforcer, Black Turbo, Solid Red Hammer
(not the pearl) Nowadays, the Lane 1 XXL is a match for any urethane
that I've ever used.

I have thrown almost all of them. I have owned the red and blue pearl, black, blue, red, purple, burgandy and pink hammer and even the navy but that was the first resin.  I have also thrown the black turbo, black and crimson phantoms, U dot and the black angle, sumo, black rhino and the scarlet quantum.

My favorites were the black phantom, purple and blue hammers, and black turbo.  I still have a black turbo, black phantom and a red and purple hammer.

Doc, you are one of the very few people I have ever heard of that liked the Phantom.

Of course at the time few proshops around here had any idea on how to drill them. The instruction sheet read like a Chinese fire drill.

Very few were drilled and only a small percentage of those were liked.
