If you add polish to a ball, how long does it usually last?
« on: February 19, 2004, 06:22:10 AM »
We've been playing on consistantly dry/short oil lanes this year and after 2 weeks with my new hot rod,  im either going to have to redrill or polish the ball in order to use it at all.   If i have the proshop polish it up,  how long does the stuff usually last before it needs another application.   Pro-shop uses mainly storm brand polish.

Also,  do you get good results at home polishing yourself,  or is it worthwhile to just have this service done on the spinner at the proshop?

I think that things that cause the need for more frequent polishing are dry lanes, wood lanes, and lots of revs.  Oilier lanes, synthetic lanes, and low revs can mean less frequent need for polishing.  It also depends on how obsessive you are.  I like a ball to react the same when I pull it out of the bag as it did the last time I pulled it out of the bag.  Some people prefer the ball to react the same when they pull it out of the bag as it did when they last put it in the bag.  I redo my whole regimen after 3-6 games.  Some people only repolish after 30 or more games.  You have to see what works for you.

I prefer to do the polishing myself so that I know that it is the same each time.  I see from your profile that you in the downriver area of metro Detroit.  Most of the best pro shops in the metro area are (in my opinion) in that area and the west side in general.  I don't say this lightly, since I'm an eastsider.  I'm partial to Mark Robey and his crew at Bowler's Aid Pro Shop in Skore Lanes in Taylor, but there are other good ones, too.  If you're interested, send me a message and I'll name a few more.
