If you could only see one person to fix your game.........
« on: June 29, 2010, 07:46:52 AM »
Who would that be?

Greetings, I haven''t posted in a while but I need some help right now.  My main problem right now is my ball speed: my fastest speed is still a mile and half slower than your average bowler''s lowest speed.

I''ve read the all the tips online to fix it, I''ve taken videos and shown them on other sites and I''ve talked to coaches within my area, but nothing has solved my speed problem.  They''ve helped me with other parts of my game, but while the speed of my shots is much faster than when I first started, the speed is still too slow for it to have a real impact.

I''m a bit desperate because I love this game a lot so I''m going through lengths to get the help I need.  So I ask again: if you had a problem with your game and could only choose one person in the US to diagnose and fix it, who would that be?

I''m open to anyone and I would prefer someone who has worked with the pros but you get the idea.  I don''t care about costs like that, the only thing I would prefer would be someone in Illinois, where I currently live, but I''m willing to travel across the country if need be.

How slow is too slow? A lot of people have been successful with slower ball speed... Pete Weber, Tim Criss... just to name a few.

I don't think slow ball speed is a problem... if you can put the ball perfect in the 1-3/1-2 every time then who cars how fast the ball is moving when it gets there?

I don't see anything wrong with slow ball speed.

Mark Baker.

A lot of people could probably help you, but if I could only see one person, Mark Baker is guaranteed the best.

You actually have one of the best coaches in the world right in your backyard man. Bill Spigner is one of the best in the world and he lives in Illinois. He's a gold level coach and former PBA champion.

Here's a link to his website: http://www.billspigner.com/

I adjust ball speed by my approach. When I need to slow the ball down and move inside to cover more boards I shorten up the distance of my approach and lower my starting position of the bowling ball a little. When I want to increase my ball speed I move further back on the approach for longer strides and increase my back swing. It is easiest if I keep my arm relaxed on the follow through when I raise my backswing because the natural momentum of the ball in the down swing creates all the speed.

Minimum effort for the most results.

I would pick Norm Duke.

Mike Jasnau I believe would be excellent.  The Kegel training camp is really good too.  Not sure if Del does any of the training(since he's in upper management there) but he would also be another person who I wouldn't mind learning from.  In the Midwest you have Bill Spigner.  I can't say enough about him.  He's a Gold level coach and has helped numerous people including some top professionals.  You can see his column monthly in the Bowler's Journal publication too.  So that would be +2 for Mr. Spigner!

I would agree with Del Warren at Kegal.I have seen him work with several pros and help them. Norm Duke would be another really good one. If they can't help,I am sure they can tell you who can.I would definitely trust their opinion!!!

There's a number of people I'd choose but I couldn't pick just one because I don't know exactly how each works with a student.  Mike Jasnau, Ron Clifton, and Mark Baker are at the top of my list though.

Depends on what part of Illinois you live in.

If you live up in the northern half.

Hands down Bill Spigner.

Southern half.

Try Lightfoot or Bornhop.

here is what I would say
some choaching is far better than no coaching
I am sure all the poeple mentioned are excellent ( Hey Ron )
all can help you take your game to the next level
I would go into it with an open mind, and leave any ideas about what you think is wrong with your game at the door. They will tell you pretty quick what is up, what is working, and what is not. Check your equipment for a true propper fit. they will listen to your concerns, but they will use their best judgement to determine what will yeild you the best results based on your game. Take some video, break it down, and give you some things to work on.

If you stick to your instructions, and remember what it is you are working on, then you will get better, but don't be suprised if you drop a little on your way back up. I had to be de constructed before I could be re constructed.

also I would recommend someone relatively close to you, so you can re visit your coach every other week or monthly to check progress, and get new help.

oh, and practice
