Here it is guys… In terms of hook potential, versitlity, and a more complete line-up, top to bottom, if you could only throw one company for the rest of life, which one would it be, and why?
For me, I can't say ;D, because I love storm, but as of late, Motiv/Dv8 have really impressed me, amd im torn :o
-
I'd go with Motiv, and this is coming from a Storm/Roto guy. So far, the Motiv balls in my arsenal have been really versatile and the overall lineup offers a bit of something for everyone. Want low RG/high RG with low/high diff, it's easy to find. Skid/snap, easy to find. Smooth and controllable, easy to find. Something in between is also easy to find. Add to that the cover durability and how they don't seem to soak as much oil and that is the route I'd go.
-
Wow, what a tough choice.
I would go with Storm slightly over DV8......this is more of a long term decision b/c I love my Diva solid and my Schizo, but NOTHING has been as good for me as the IQ Tour Pearl as far as match-up.
This is a tough question b/c I've never really been the "brand loyal" type b/c I don't have a contract. We can carry on about how arsenals are created in 1 brand from top-to-bottom but I can build an arsenal using 1 ball from each brand and be at no disadvantage.....
-
Brunswick. I have thrown a lot of it for many years and haven't seen anything to change my mind. Tried other brands here and there and wasn't impressed enough to try more.
DV8 and Radical have also had some really nice pieces come through that I have enjoyed. From top to bottom Brunswick has been my favorite of the three.
-
Since they came out in 2004, no other brand has been as versatile or as hard hitting as Lane Masters. That includes the current regime.
Before that, from when resins first appeared, it was Dyno-Thane, from Wayne Webb through Phil Cardinale.
-
This is rough. Can we choose one factory? If not, I'll take AMF. Lots of great Global pieces, but the cores usually get passed down to the AMF line, and it's a great brand.
-
Motiv all the way
-
+1 for Lane Masters
-
I'd be ok with any really. I've had success with every company I've thrown for the most part except for a couple individual balls that I just didnt seem to matchup with.
If I had to pick I'd probably lean towards Radical or Columbia 300, I really like the lineups they have right now

I agree with Charlest. Though I am new to LM (LF), I was very impressed on how these balls hit/carry. Not only in my hands, but those I bowl with in leagues. The light hit pin action makes it seem like the person rolling a 16lbs ball. High or low revs, just a hard hitting balls.
I would choose LM as well......
-
If you asked me this about 2-3 years ago, I probably would have said Storm. About 10 years ago, I probably would have said Dynothane. But currently, I would say Radical Bowling Technologies. I have a few of their balls and have been very impressed with them.
But, I must say I like being able to throw multiple companies. while I have a few Radical balls, I love my Hy-Road, I can't wait to try Motiv Venom Shock, and really like the Darkness I have as well.
-
I have had good success throwing Track the last few years before that would have been Roto Grip, but Track it is.

Alot of honest opinions…… with technology evolving, and with companies expanding, and developing new ideas and core/cover designs, its SO HARD to choose just one company.
Until recently, I was all storm/roto, but years ago, bowled on a DV8 have a ball league and got a revenge, and havnt looked back since; And in that time tried, Motiv, Radical, and havnt looked back. Having options is not a bad thing afterall...
-
i would say columbia but their high performance stuff is lacking....im sure i could make it work though.
i hammer only made widows and vibes i could definitely make that work.
storm has the most complete line of balls but their stuff clears the heads too well for me. i like more midlane reactions
-
i have thrown so much different stuff its unreal but if i only had to choose one it would be motiv far and away
-
Hammer, by a mile
-
MOTIV for me, especially since I am limited to 12 & 13 lb balls because of back surgery. They use the same size and shape cores in their light weight balls as their heavier weight balls whereas most other companies use a generic light bulb shape core in their light weight balls. I started throwing 12# MOTIV balls in Dec of 2013 and they have worked really great for me. Great hit and pin mix for light weight balls. I am now toying with a couple of their 13# balls ( Primal Rage & Octane ) to see if I can move up a lb and still get the same great results.

None of 'em. They all have a good piece or two. Live in reality. You aren't getting paid what's the point? For those that getting paid more power to you for the rest of us....idiots. :)
-
Scott is right, i have mostly EBI stuff.
was all track a few years ago, since branched out to ebonite, hammer and columbia.

This is utterly ridiculous. I have friends who only drive Hondas, or only wear Under Armour, only get Shell gas, etc. A lot can be said for knowing what you are getting as far as a product, but I guess they are "idiots".
-
I've tried every company through the years. For the past few years I've been loving the stuff from DV8/Brunswick/Radical. If I had to choose one right now . . . DV8 for sure!

Yep pretty much. I understand why folks need to be brand loyal so they feel part of something. Must be a fear of missing the boat. That boat left a long time ago. :)
-
I'll play along.
I would go Storm. Probably because I know their lineups better, used them more, thus obviously more confident throwing them.
-
Scotts.....
Always your way or it is the wrong way. People who own shares of companies only use the products of those companies. Why? Makes them money. I sure don't know of anyone who owns AT&T stock and yet uses Verizon or someone else. because they trust the brand, know the brand, and can set expectations, that is the brand he/she chooses. When I reach into my bag I want to make sure I can trust a reaction and shape I am going to get. I quite frankly don't trust any company today, so I go around and collect all the old Quantums I can find. Even rolling, well produced bowling balls that still score well today. In fact, I shot 300 in the final game of a tournament this summer with the original Midnight Blue that came out 20 years ago to win the tourney by 7 pins. I have a Forest Green in my bag, and plugged one waiting to go and found a brand new undrilled one as well recently (16# is tough to find for Quantums).
Point is the company is dead. No new balls in over a decade. Brunswick Technology Ventures is no more and never will be again. However, I choose to throw them (Quantums) because that is what fits my game, rather than trying to incorporate pieces from today. Why should I look at other companies when what I have rolls and scores just fine for me still to this day? Just because YOU think everyone should have pieces from different companies does not make your opinion wrong, but neither is mine for only wanting to use a dead brand. Get off your high horse and if someone wants to use 1 company they sure have the right to regardless of the reason, just the same right the person has to have balls from 15 different companies in his/her bags. I want confidence and that is what the Quantum brand does for me.

I know what you are saying, but is it really the best match for you if you haven't tried others? I liken it to bowlers who get their first ball drilled at the closest proshop to them and are happy with the ball. It might not be the proper fit for them, but because that is their first and only experience they have to a 'fitted' ball, they think it is good (and besides, the driller told them it was a good fit). They get the rest of their balls drilled by the same person and think it is normal to have a large round thumbhole they have to squeeze to hang onto. Same for bowling balls. Every company does make good balls but there are some slight differences (or there used to be, I haven't tried every company recently) and there may be other best matches for the bowler. Of course, like with proshops, the bowler may happen to have the best match/driller for them already, but If they don't experiment, they won't know for sure.

Gary - Great explanation and totally agree with you.

Some people are missing the spirit of the post, which was just to have some fun. Most of the posts I read openly acknowledged that there isn't one brand that's superior to all of the others; it's just a matter of someone feeling most comfortable/confident with a certain manufacturer, AND the original post said, "If you had to go with only one brand." I think people are just having fun with this; there's no reason for people to start insulting one another.
As for me, if I had to choose one brand, I would stick with Storm. I have matched up very well with most Storm balls over the last few years, I think they have a very diverse lineup, and I like the simplicity of knowing exactly where/how each ball is supposed to fit in relation to the others in the product line.
Again, this isn't saying that Storm balls are the best and other companies are lesser. This is simply the direction I would go in if, as the original post said, I were forced to pick one brand and stick with it from this point forward.
Just lighten up and have some fun, people. If you can't do that, at least try not to whiz in everyone else's pool water while they try to do so! ;)
-
I used to be brand loyal Visionary. I stopped using them as I didn't match up with their z-spinners nor did they stay up with the others as far as covers and cores IMO.
I have used since then a few Storm, some RotoGrip, Motiv, Track and last purchase was a released Feb 2013 original Radical Yeti that was discounted. I purchase now for total value. I am not brand loyal if I match up with something I may work off that ball but not married to any one manufacturer.
Whatever blows your dress up but I won't be using over priced $160+ NIB high end stuff unless it may gave me something nothing else will.
Bowlers/golfers tend to be the next new thing out.
For the most part it's bowling execution, repeating shots, defeating the lane condition....not equipment for me. I'd rather put $$$ into instruction than equipment.
-
Scotts,
I agree with just about everything you had to say there, but you say it in an offputting sort of way. "Whatever blows your dress up?" I'd rather put my $$$ into instruction and equipment. Why do you have to word things in a way that makes it seem like you are on the right track while everyone else is a donkey? lol You crack me up, sir! ;D

Oh well Gene. I'm just a house hack. :)
-
Oh, I'm right there with you in that regard, sir. I'm your typical 215-230 on house, 185-195 on anything difficult type of guy. The only difference between me and many "house hacks" is that I know that's what I am. I don't let the big average and big scores from league trick me into believing that I'm actually good! In any case, just do you, man! 8)
-
Gene, you couldn't have said it any BETTER ; that was my whole point of posting this post, +1000!!!
Again as stated, ALL COMPANIES make great products, and with me throwing Storm, Roto Grip, DV8, and Motiv, I have NO REASON TO wreck my brain. ;D

Exactly.
The thread was an "If you...." game thread. If you want to play along, great... If not, don't kick the game board over, just don't play it & move along... ;) ::)

Scotts, if we are talking about heavier weight balls, I totally agree with you but in my case and 12# balls, I will have to disagree because of the core thing I mentioned in my earlier post. For example, a 12# Brunswick Mastermind with a generic light bulb shape core isn't going to have the same shape, movements, and etc on the lanes as a 15# one will, whereas a 12# Motiv Primal Rage will have as close as possible, the same shape, movements, and etc as a 15# one will.

Just dealing in the hypothetical, not reality.
-
Visionary...period. Have thrown many balls over 15 years of bowling and have been throwing VBP for the last 7-8 years, and have thrown many of what they've made. Always a consistent roll for me no what ball I throw. Have had all but one honor score with them and as far as service and the people you deal with, you can't ask for better.
Got my kiddo throwing them as well and he's doing just fine too.
-
It would be Radical. I have several other brands, but the Radical gear is seeing the lion's share of use this season.
-
If you could only throw one ball company, I wouldn't!!!
-
If I were to throw one ball company. I narrow my choices down to Pyramid and Radical. They are a up and coming ball companies. One having 2 brilliant minds working together.
-
Right now, the easiest to cover a range of conditions without confusion and the least overlap seems to be MOTIV. I really like what they are doing and where they are headed.
-
Roto Grip, though I would be tempted to go all in on Motiv.
