If you fouled....

If you fouled and the foul lights were not working, would you change your score to a 0 for that ball, or not say anything?

I believe in the rules "yes" I would charge myself for the foul.

This happened to me personally the other night and I changed it and was actually looked at funny for doing so. I just believe in doing the right thing and a foul is a foul to me whether the lights are functioning properly or not. Mine was a definite situation where I would have gotten away with it as well but its just not how I was raised to do things like that.

Practice bowling - no. Not worth the time.
League play - yes. I also change the score when the ball comes out of the gutter and takes out the 10-pin. Some people in league don't do that.

Yup a foul is a foul. You have to be honest with yourself just like in golf if you're OB, or lost ball etc.

A foul is a foul. The lights have nothing to do with it. Correct the score and move on. If you are willing to lie to yourself about the truth of any situation, others will choose not to trust you either.

there's an old saying, " cheaters never win....and winners never cheat". i realize for some who visit this website this type of saying is "old school" or "not cool", but nevertheless if you are a competitor you should abide by the rules and take your loss like a man.

Actually had this happen to a teammate during a game where he shot 300...

In his case he did not see himself foul...Someone 4 lanes over claimed to have seen him foul....

None of us saw the foul,,,

And according to the { then }  ABC,  it was up to the opposing teams capt. to watch for fouls if the lights are not working...

If the opposing teams capt. did not call it,  no foul...

And Yes,  he would have called the foul.

Had this happen to me a few weeks back where someone had tracked snow in and drug it down into the bowlers area.  I stuck and went over the line.  The ball struck and I went back and marked it a foul and made my spare.

this happened to me last night... I threw my shot and the buzzer went off, I looked and my foot and was clearly not over the line..!! showed the other guys as the machine was reracking the pins.. ok, some of them they said, went to the overhead scoring machine and it said 9 not a foul.. what do you do..??  I took the foul b/c it reracked the pins and some of their guys were whinning.. I picked up the spare though..lol.. easiest one in the game I think..lol..  to asnwer the original post, if the lights are not on and you foul, you take the foul, its called being honest..!!  slashrr69

I had something similar happen way back in Junior leagues IE 1991 lol

It was a spring league and the foul lights wernt on.. So after a good first game 230 game, i''m starting off good with a couple strikes and a spare..  And i throw my next ball and get a strike..  

Well a guy on the opposing team, says I fouled..... And I am like WTF no way did i foul...I stop atleast a foot from the foul line, and always have....  He argues, that since the foul lights are not on, that he can call a foul on me, if he thinks I committed one.  I come back, with so how can you tell if i crossed the foul line, from way back in the sitting area??????  

So after about 15mins of arguing, I was forced to take the foul.   So on his next shot, I called a foul..... from across the damn building... And said, now you have to take a zero...  And yes i went to crap after the foul cuz it completely made me think more about where my feet were stopping than anything..

Call it petty, but seriously if the foul lights are not on,,, and you didnt fall onto the lanes, you''d have every swinging dick calling a foul..  And you''d have to take a foul no matter what.. And if you dont believe me, just try doing it to someone in league or a tournament, you''ll basically start a fight... And then you''ll have them calling fouls on you if your anywhere within 5 feet of the foul line.

Now try arguing that.....
