Anyone ever used Electrical tape?
« on: June 21, 2008, 01:59:40 PM »
Topic says it all, anyone ever usaed this over ordinary thumb tape. I see no difference at a glance and they fell basically the same.

I don't have any thumb tape at my disposal right this moment , and was thing ing of using electrical tape on one of my balls thumb holes.

It will probably leave a stickier residue when coming off, but that can be easily cleaned up.

Anyone else done this?

No, but I have used duct tape and gorilla tape. They actually fill better than regular tape. Feel padded in thumbhole. Just cut with a razor or sharp blade instead of tearing so you have no frizzled ends.

I use electrical tape in my thumb hole. It does leave tackier residue in the hole after removal, especially in the warm summer months. But the "feel" is similar and the cost is much better than black bowlers tape, IMHO.

Back in the days before bowling tape was invented. Yes, black electrical tape was used. I for one was using electrical tape. All I did was place some on top of each other and round off the edges with a pair of scissors. Yes there was more residue but it was easily removed with alcohol or nail polish remover.

Where did you think the pre-cut bowlers tape came from?

I must be the luckiest guy in North American bowling history.  I haven't used a piece of tape in a finger or thumb hole in my life.

The only place I've ever used tape is on the outside of a finger insert to "fine tune" the fit.

While I no longer use electrical tape, the main problem EVERY TIME you needed to change the tape was the horrific glop of messy glue you had to remove. God forbid if you had to do during bowling.

I stopped using black tape for maybe 10+ years now, until I got a sample of Vanlentino's Franken Tape. (No, I'm not an employee sorry if it sounds like that.) I had the samples so rather than throw them away, I tried one. It was so thin I figured what could it hurt. I stuck it in the back of the thumb hole. It was so slick, that I had to add another piece of white tape in the front in order not to drop the ball. The thumb now fits tighter and the thumb release is even more natural. Now, I add one piece of Franken tape to every ball I use, if it doesn't already have it.

i use electrical tape all the time and even use different colors over each other to allow for easier remival. i have found thumb tape to be much stickier.

Experimented with electrical/Vinyl tape in the back of my thumb, but rejected it because it did not adhere well to the thumb hole insides - even though I liked the soft and slick feeling (felt better than black tape).
