Illegal ball? need help
« on: May 28, 2010, 01:04:47 AM »
We have a two hander in our league who has all his balls drilled with just the top two fingers and no thumb hole drilled. He averages 215 but I'm not sure if you can drill a ball with just the two finger holes. Is this illegal or is there a way that a ball can be drilled with only two fingers so that its legal?

must drill the thumb hole, and from what I've heard the thumb hole must be covered up by the hand that uses the finger holes.

Thumb hole is not needed as long as the static weights are within specs.

Don't necessarily need to drill a thumbhole.

As per equipment specifications manual page I-3
quote:
A ball drilled without a thumb may not have more
than 3 ounces difference between the top half and
bottom half of the ball.
Just have to be sure each ball is still within static weight specs.

Sounds like someone is getting beat down and crying about it..

Man up and stop trying to find legal ways to win..

ITS YOU AGAINST THE LANE....

If the dude can out bowl you then practice.
I believe its harder to hold a ball without a thumb hole.
I hate when people aren''t able to beat a person on the lane and then try and find some type of legal in attempt to shutdown a bowler...

Read the Equipment Specs Manual.  For a ball without a thumb hole, there may be no more than 3oz difference between the top and bottom halves of the ball.  I would presume that the side weight rule is still in effect.  For finger/thumb weight, I interpret it as no more than 1oz difference between the half of the ball above the fingers and the half below the fingers.

Yes, you can have a ball with no thumb hole.  It would take some diligence and good starting specs to make it legal.  Further, you can have a ball with no finger or thumb holes at all, but it would be very difficult to get it into spec and you'd need just the right ball to do it.

Exactly,  it can be done. If the ball has no thumb hole, it may or should have thumb weight... Therefore a balance hole could solve the problem...Assuming the finger holes were drilled in their normal area...

However if a thumb hole had been drilled in the first place,

There more then likely, wouldn't be a problem...

wow wow wow never ceases to amaze me the lengths people will go to to try to screw some one who is whoopin azz..........as a fellow two finger bowler and have 4 300's this way if you wanna come check my weights and specs mr300ny. All my stuff is two hole only and i know a guy who bowls nationals every year with two finger balls so its legal....whether the fingers are deeper or side hole is used doesnt matter as long as it meets specs. And as for boomtown24 idk where ya are gettin your info from but i would look elsewhere cause your wrong.

How about we take a step back and stop jumping to conclusions here? mr300ny asked whether or not this was legal, but he didn''t say he was doing so because he wanted to bust the guy. It''s possible he was asking because he didn''t want to see this person get into trouble, so he was going to give him a heads up. If he was asking because he was looking to get the goods on the two-hander, then I''ll agree with you guys, but let''s at least give him the chance to explain before we flame him for being a sore loser.
