Illinois Bowlers
« on: March 20, 2004, 10:49:02 PM »
Would like to find out how many of you are from Illinois.  Like some of the other states, would be nice to get a group together at a central location to bowl and get to know each other. I am from the Joliet area.

WHERE IS EVERYONE FROM ILLINIOS FROM?????

Originally from the NW side of Chicago, currently residing in the lovely town of Bloomington-Normal.  Up north I sub at Brunswick Zone Niles and Habetler Bowl, and down here I bowl at the ISU student union and Pheasant Lanes.

I live in Evanston.  Here is my schedule:

Monday - Hawthorn Lanes, Vernon Hills - work in pro shop from 5-8, bowl league at 8.
Thursday - Hawthorn - work in pro shop from 5-8, bowl league at 8.
Friday - Bowl league at Espo's.
Saturday - Work in pro shop at Hawthorn from 11-4.  Bowl ABT after getting off, schedule permitting.
Sunday (every other) - Bowl in adult-child league at Hawthorn with 17-year-old son.  Bowl ABT, schedule permitting.

Of course, in a few weeks, when the season ends and the summer league season begins, this will all change.

I currently reside in Champaign where I bowl on Mon nights.
I work in Decatur and bowl 2 nights there.

Angstfilled, I agree the 8 game is not the toughest shot but it is harder than the normal league shot at most lanes, I guess Reno's oil pattern is really tough.  The Town and Country Teams that won the ABC's two years ago just got back and said it was like the oil was put on with a paint brush, no room for error.  They also had the Reno pattern put down at Town and Country but they said it didn't play like Reno!!!!

Omega, yes they have a Thursday night (9:15pm) Majors at Town and Country, mostly top bowlers from around the Chicago land area.

Rick Wunder, I take it you work for Bill Spigner????  Nice shop and nice lanes, I enjoyed the PBA event this year at Hawthorne.

I will do another post with some questions for everyone.

There's a possibility my employer might relocate me to Joliet in the next month, how are the scratch tournaments up there and are there any good scratch leagues on fridays, saturdays, or sundays?

Let me know who would definitely be interested in getting together and suggestions on when would be a good time.  I know I could set something up at Town and Country in Joliet, nice 44 lane house.

Illinois is a big and long state so I know Joliet is not REALLY good for the bowlers from southern Illinois but if this thing goes over and we have a good turnout and interest to do it again we can then select other sites. This is not cast in stone as far as a site if everyone would rather move it further south??????????  Open for suggestions.

Anyone interested in helping set this up let me know, who knows what it could grow into. Its all about bowling, meeting new people and having fun.

Buffalo Grove

Bowl at Hawthorn Lanes in Vernon Hills and Brunswick Zone in Deer Park (Lake Zurich).

President of Elgin Association so I'm familiar with most of the west and northwest suburban bowling centers.

Dale Christensen,
On behalf of Bill and Barb Spigner, I thank you for your compliments regarding Hawthorn Lanes.

I worked for Bill until last May, when he sold the shop to assistant pro Brian Chilcutt, for whom I now work.  It is now called "Striking Difference Pro Shop," but if you were to come in today, you would not see much of a difference in appearance.  Actually, when you attended the PBA event last October, the shop had already changed hands, but you may not have even noticed.  BTW, on behalf of Brian, I also thank you for the compliments regarding the shop.

I, too, enjoyed the PBA event last year and I look forward to the tour coming again next year.

Rick, I am just getting old (59)yes, now I remember that Brian was the new owner.  Put the Spigners and Brian together you not only have very knowledgable pro shop people but what a top level group of bowlers.  Anyone who hasn't been to Hawthorne Lanes is missing a CLASS establishment. They put on a great show.  Hopefully if we can put an event together with Illinois Ballreviews bowlers we will all meet.

Twister,

The top scratch league is the Thursday Night Majors at Town and Country at 9:15pm. But there are many good mens leagues and some great women bowlers also at T & C.  Let me know if you relocate as there are a number of good houses in the area and I will get you the information.
